Sam Houston State Historic Site

Sam Houston Schoolhouse State Historic Site is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Historical Commission.

Greetings from the Sam Houston State Historic Schoolhouse! We are so excited to be a part of this group and look forward to working with volunteers in our area. We are looking for individuals to aide in field trip events at the schoolhouse located in Maryville Tennessee. Our field trips run from 10am to 2pm usually. Our trips include, School Marm, Museum Guide, Candle Making and corn grinding. We are certainly not opposed to bringing in something new for the children to learn from and enjoy. Our field trips are geared towards all age groups and not limited to public schools only. We have a wide variety of homeschool groups which come also. With that being said, you could be teaching any age group from 5 to 18+. We occasionally do have adult groups from nursing homes etc. Period clothing (1800s) encouraged but not required. We usually need 2 to 3 helpers on any given day. Interest in history and some knowledge of Sam Houston will be very helpful, but we are always willing to train.
