Volunteer: Serving Lunch in the Kitchen

The Salvation Army is seeking individuals to help serve dinner for residents in our shelters.  This opportunity serves food from a serving line and assist with other kitchen duties, as needed.  Kitchen duties can include sweeping, cleaning and disinfecting tables and/or rinsing dishes.   Once you sign up for a shift, you are officially confirmed to volunteer.

Please arrive at our Knoxville Area Command at 409 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN. You can park in our main parking lot on the front side of the building (even though it says no parking). Please enter the building through our main entrance (second entrance on the front side of the building between the flag pole and playground). You will be directed where to go once you check in at the front desk. If you are volunteering on a date when the main office is closed, please walk around the back of the building to the kitchen entrance. Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Attire should also be appropriate and not include profanity, low-cut tops, or short dresses/shorts. Thank you for volunteering!

Volunteer: Food Pantry Coordinator at the Salvation Army

Help Feed Hope in Your Community!
The Salvation Army is seeking dedicated volunteers to join a small leadership team helping manage our Emergency Assistance Food Pantry. This pantry provides essential food support to individuals and families in need who have been prequalified for assistance.

About the Role:
As part of the Food Pantry Management Team, you’ll help ensure our pantry operates smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include:

Monitoring and maintaining pantry stock — tracking inventory, checking expiration dates, and helping place food orders as needed.

Scheduling and supporting volunteers — organizing the volunteer schedule and providing guidance to those assisting during pantry hours (recruitment handled by The Salvation Army).

Coordinating pantry operations — greeting clients alongside volunteers and ensuring a welcoming, organized environment.

Supporting community food drives — optionally helping organize or assist with food drives to bolster pantry stock and promote community engagement.

Our goal is to open the pantry once or twice each week, offering consistent access to food support for our neighbors. While this is a leadership role, you do not need to be present every time the pantry is open—we’ll work together as a team to share responsibilities and schedules.

Ideal Volunteer:
We’re looking for someone who is:

Organized and dependable

Comfortable leading small groups of volunteers

Compassionate and respectful toward all people

Able to commit a few hours per week (schedule is flexible)

Why It Matters:
Every can, every box, every act of kindness helps feed hope for families in our community. By volunteering your time and leadership, you’ll help ensure that no neighbor goes hungry.

Interested?
To learn more or express interest, contact Tracy Weber at tracy.weber@uss.salvationarmy.org or call 865-971-4920.

Together, we can Feed Hope and Share Love in our community.

Volunteer: Weekly Food Donation Pick-up for Salvation Army Pantry

We are in need of several drivers to help us with the pick up of regular food donations from a local grocery store. These donations must be picked up on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays by 11 a.m. We just don't have the staff to cover this all the time so are hoping that some wonderful volunteers can help!

- We'll ensure you fully understand the process for pick-up and drop-off.

Your commitment:

Be at the Salvation Army of Knoxville by 10 a.m. on the morning of your assigned pick-up. Drive the Salvation  Army vehicle to the grocery store.Complete basic paperwork on the donation.Load the donation into the Salvation Army vehicle.Drive back to the Salvation Army.
