**Beginning on July 1st, 2025 - individuals who are interested in volunteering with Muse Knoxville must complete a 60 minute on-site orientation with the Director of Museum Operations. Orientations are scheduled twice a month - the first Monday of the month from 3:00-4:00pm and the third Thursday of the month from 9:00-10:00am. Volunteers will be credited 1 hour for attending the orientation. Registration for volunteer shifts will not be approved in Give Pulse until the orientation is completed. COMMUNITY EVENT VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION
Community Event Volunteers at Muse Knoxville bring the power of play and STEAM-based learning to the community. This volunteer is managed by the Director of Museum Operations and the Events and Merchandise Manager. Any questions or concerns regarding scheduled shifts, hours verification, etc. will be directed to Shelby Cornell at shelby@themuseknoxville.org.
SCHEDULE: This volunteer opportunity has a wide variety of hours and shift opportunities, depending on the date and time of the community event. Volunteer shifts can range from 2-6 hours in length. Shifts are scheduled via Give Pulse, Volunteer East Tennessee, or other volunteer recruitment platform.
LOCATION: Covenant Health Park - 500 E. Jackson Avenue Knoxville, TN 37915
DRESS CODE: Closed-toed shoes, attire appropriate for a children’s museum setting, shorts/skirts/dresses must be fingertip length, shirts must cover midriff area
WHEN VOLUNTEERING AS A COMMUNITY EVENT VOLUNTEER, YOU WILL …
- Responsible for setting up the table, activities, promotional materials, etc. before the start of the event; can pick up all items from Muse up to 24 hours prior to the event
- Responsible for tearing down the table and all materials; must return all items to Muse after the conclusion of the event
- Engage with children and families at the specific community event
- Enthusiastically greet every person that approaches the Muse tableOffer promotional materials about Muse as an organization
- Answer questions to the best of your ability and/or give Shelby's contact information if they have further questions about Muse and all it offers
- Facilitate and monitor various interactive activities such as bubbles, Apple Jenga, dinosaur building blocks, etc.
- Ensure that all Muse materials are being treated with respect and do not leave the table
IMPACT OF THIS VOLUNTEER ROLE:
- Brand awareness of Muse including who we are, why we exist, what we offer, and more
- Connecting members of the Knoxville community to Muse
- Create memorable experiences with children and families that will have a lasting impact, especially on the child
- Foster and encourage creativity and learning in children as they play
- Inspire children to be interested in STEM careers
THIS VOLUNTEER POSITION HAS THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong interest in engaging children
- Treat everyone with kindness and respect
- Dependability and arriving on time for your scheduled shift
- Not using cell phones or other electronic devices while actively volunteering
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Friendly and positive attitude
- Able to create and maintain a tidy workspace
- Willingness to jump in and help where needed
- Have not been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in the last 5 years
- If volunteering more than 10+ hours:
- Complete and pass a background check at no cost to the volunteer
*Please note: Muse Knoxville has a volunteer no-show policy. If you do not show up for your scheduled shift 3 times, you are no longer able to volunteer with Muse. We understand that unforeseen circumstances do come up.
