The Knoxville Area Urban League wants to take big steps for the event’s 20th anniversary – provide 2,000 pairs of shoes to area schoolchildren. With the help of partners like Covenant Health, TVA, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee and so many local non-profit agencies, we’re on our way to reaching that goal. But we need you, too!
Shoes for School is an annual event that provides new shoes and school supplies for area children. These back-to-school basics give students stability and boost their self-esteem so that they can successfully start a new year in the classroom.
We work with other nonprofits to identify and register children ages 5-12 who need the most assistance. The coordination and costs are great, but the satisfaction of seeing students’ smiling faces at the event and knowing that they will be more at ease with their peers is priceless.
