The YWCA’s Diversity Day and Race Against Racism is an annual event that takes place at our East Knoxville Phyllis Wheatley Center (PWC). Our programs in East Knoxville provide programs and support for this under-served community. We have inspirational speakers from the community, table displays for area services that are targeted toward the residents, music, games for the kids, and, of course, our Kids’ Fun Run, 1-Mile Walk that goes up to the Alex Haley (was a Knoxville resident and author of “Roots”) statue and the Certified 5k race for runners.
The event begins around 11:00 a.m. People gather in the PWC gymnasium to hear the speakers and visit the information tables to learn about local services such as free weatherproofing, local senior assistance services, and more.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities including but not limited to: race set up, water stations, and cheering runners on.
