Do you have the gift of hospitality? Help us welcome our newest refugee neighbors to Knoxville!

Volunteers help us set-up a new home and create a welcoming space for an arriving refugee family seeking safety and peace in Knoxville. Our volunteers will help us move and place furniture, put linens on beds, hang shower curtains, put dishes in cabinets, and make an empty apartment or house look like a welcoming home for our weary travelers.

If you have a truck or a trailer and can help us move furniture from our storage unit to the new home, we would love to have your assistance! However, a truck or a trailer is not required to volunteer for this role.

Apartment set-ups generally happen on an as-needed basis usually during Bridge office hours, 8:30-5:30 M-F.

Seeking Adult volunteers to serve as Parent Partners to our young adults who have little to no adult support in their lives, especially when it comes to raising a child. A Parent Partner is a support person for a new/young mother or a young/new father learning the ropes of parenting. This volunteer would ultimately serve as a person to call for guidance and advice.

Have you ever wished you could make a difference just by running your daily errands? 

Our mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services is expecting to welcome a record number of refugees to Knoxville this year, and we cannot do this without community support.

We would love to have volunteers help us shop for culturally appropriate groceries.  We will give you grocery gift cards (you don't have to use your own money!) and a culturally appropriate grocery list for the family you are shopping for; you help us by going to a local Walmart or other grocery store and shopping for the items on the list and return the groceries to our office. This volunteer opportunity is very flexible with busy schedules!

Help us give a refugee family a head start in their new city by providing nourishing food.

Help us welcome our newest refugee neighbors to Knoxville!  We need volunteers with trucks, trailers, or tow equipment to help us pick up furniture donations from week-to-week!

One of our missions at Bridge Refugee Services is to provide safe, affordable, and furnished housing for our arriving refugee families.  We are largely dependent upon in-kind donations of gently used furniture from the community to set up a new home for our refugee families.  Sadly, we are missing out on a lot of donations because our organization is unable to do furniture pick-ups.  

We are looking for hero volunteers with weekday availability and vehicles that can transport couches, loveseats, dressers, dining tables, nightstands, end tables, and other basic types of furniture!  

Furniture pick-ups will generally happen on an as-needed basis usually during Bridge office hours, 8:30-5:30 M-F, and furniture will need to be transported to our off-site storage unit on Western Ave.

Bridge Refugee Services is expecting to welcome a record number of refugees to Knoxville this year, and we cannot do this without community support.  We are always looking to restock our supply of donations of household goods and furniture to provide material support for our refugee families arriving all year long.  

I would like to invite both individuals and groups to assist us through in-kind donation drives for household goods to help us in new home set-ups for our newest neighbors.  Pillows, bedding, fresh towels and washcloths, toiletries, laundry detergent, kitchen trash cans, dishes and cookware, cleaning supplies, school supplies--all are needed!

We are launching a brand-new initiative this year to create sustainability and efficiency in our donations process, and charitable groups can help us by donating various housing kits.  Your group can look through our brand new BRS Housing Kit Guide and pick a housing kit that speaks to your group, and then put together as many kits as you are able to.  We do accept some items as gently used, like dishes, flatware, pots, and pans; but other items like bedding, towels, toiletries, etc. would need to be new.

If you cannot commit to a whole kit, you can still donate any item(s) from this guide to support welcoming refugees to the Knoxville area!  Even if you wanted to just collect new pillows or umbrellas (or school supplies, which are not in the Housing Kit Guide), this would be a huge help!  Large groups collecting donations for us really help us meet the material needs of our refugee families.  If this is something you or your group would like to do, I can point you in the right direction as far as current needs go.

We're searching for caring Volunteers to provide companionship and socialization for Hospice Patients. We also need kind helpers to give families a break when they have things to do outside their home.

Being a Hospice Volunteer is about showing compassion and being there for others. It's a very special way to spread kindness and help those who might need it during difficult times.

We would like for these visits to be made weekly but have no minimum or maximum time required.

Do you believe in the healing power of equine therapy and its ability to address anxiety and depression? If so, we invite you to be a part of our incredible team of volunteers at PJ Parkinson's Equine Guided Therapy for Parkinson's.

About Equine Therapy: We partner with Two Step Revolution to provide an innovative program that harnesses the therapeutic potential of equine guided therapy to provide emotional support to individuals living with Parkinson's disease. We understand that addressing the emotional aspect of Parkinson's is just as crucial as its physical challenges. Through our equine-guided sessions, participants can find solace, connection, and healing in the presence of our gentle equine partners.

Become a peer support for clients in our case management program! This could include driving a client to the grocery store, taking them to and supporting them while at an appointment, or assisting with other needs that may arise.

Safe Harbor is looking for a volunteer advocate for Thursdays from 8:00 - 5:00. This opportunity is for someone who is passionate about provide support to children, caregivers, and Safe Harbor staff in our Grainger County office. Duties include welcoming families as they arrive for their therapy appointment, answering questions, and providing support as needed.  Must love working with children and families. We are looking for some support during our busy client appointment times. For this project, we request a 6-month commitment, for a minimum of 4 hours a week, up to 8 hours a week. Volunteer must complete an application with references and complete a fingerprint background check. 

We are looking for some support during our busy client appointment times. Many times we have 3 - 4 families in our lobby at the same time. Volunteer assistance is needed on a long term basis. For this project, we request a 6-month commitment, for a minimum of 4 hours a week, up to 40 hours a week. Volunteer must complete an application with references and complete a fingerprint background check. 

At KARM, we serve 3 meals a day, 365 days a year. Come serve with us!

KIN is a faith-based organization that pairs Christ-followers with local internationals to help them learn English, study the driver's manual, prepare for the US citizenship test, and various other study needs.

If you would like to meet with a local international once/week for at least one hour to help them learn from a given curriculum, please let us know!

You will need to complete a volunteer application and a background check, attend a one-hour orientation, and sign a waiver release.

NOTE: Some LaMP requests are for children/students to help with homework when parents are unable to do so because of their lack of English.

Catholic Charities of East TN has different programs that help people of all ages who may have a need for personal items. Our Children's Emergency Shelter (CES) is a safe haven for children removed from the home and awaiting long-term placement. Samaritan's Place provides shelter and emergency shelter to seniors who are experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis. Columbus Home Assisting Parents (CHAP) provides home-based education and support services for crisis intervention, parenting skills, and case management.

Knoxville Habitat for Humanity Restore is seeking volunteers who can volunteer minimum of 2 shifts per month from 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm for a minimum of 6 months.

PanCAN's Advocacy Chairs are volunteers who focus on important legislative priorities. They serve as a local resource for their affiliate, mobilizing other volunteers to take action and educating members of Congress about our legislative goals. The main aim is to increase federal funding for pancreatic cancer research. Your role is crucial as a constituent advocate, given that 80% of pancreatic cancer research funding comes from the federal government. By building relationships with local Congress members, you directly impact the federal funding for pancreatic cancer research.

As the campaign lead for District 2, of the Tennessee PanCAN affiliate, you drive advocacy campaigns and initiatives in your area! You provide committee members with PanCAN's advocacy toolkits and resources, helping them execute effective advocacy campaigns at the local level. Your role also involves keeping the affiliate updated on congressional activities and sharing advocacy opportunities throughout the year.

As the Community Chair, you are the connector between PanCAN and the people in your community! Your leadership will ensure the affiliate is a welcoming environment for all individuals. You will lead the Community Committee – which includes a Media Chair and Social Media Chair – and play an important role in keeping the affiliate “strong and thriving.” As potential volunteers express interest in doing more, you will find out what skills they possess, how much time they have, and then match them to an appropriate role or activity as outlined in your Affiliate Action Plan and beyond.

This will require that you understand your Affiliate’s Community Assessment, Action Plan, the PanCAN PurpleStandards, and work with all leadership volunteers to understand what the needs are, with a particular focus on ensuring that the affiliate is diverse and represents of all parts of the community. We know that volunteers don’t just “appear,” so it’s important to work with your staff partner to build relationships within your community and mobilize as many people as possible to take even small actions.

Volunteer organizations, social clubs, and faith-based organizations are just a few suggestions on great places to start to build a volunteer base. And don’t forget about your digital community! Partnering with the Social Media Chair on digital recruitment will be key to our success.

The Great Smoky Mountain Council is committed to providing life changing programs to all eligible and interested young people despite their background or socio-economic situation. We believe that all youth deserve the chance to be a Scout. To accomplish our mission, we have had to look at our program model and determined that traditional Scouting programs in the evening simply was not the best option in all areas. Through multiple partnerships in the community, we have been able to develop programs to reach an underserved market through after school, community center, and on-site Scouting.

Due to the schedule of these programs, generally during normal working hours, we created the program specialist position to assist/lead these units. Parents and guardians simply are not available at these times and this method gives those youth the best chance to participate in Scouting. The program specialists are paid, part-time positions and we are in the process of filling 3 openings.

One of our roles as Knoxville's only refugee resettlement agency is to find affordable housing for our arriving refugee families. This task comes with unique challenges. One of these unique challenges is the rental agreements and city ordinances that require our refugee families to take care of the yard of their rental property.

We receive a lot of refugee families--many of whom are single mother with young children--who:

There are opportunities in the Spring, Summer, and early Fall months for volunteers to help us meet the yard work needs of our refugee families and single mothers. This is also a great opportunity for groups that can serve refugee families through cutting grass, pulling weeds, raking leaves, and general yard clean-up.

Special Requirement: The volunteer would need to be able to provide their own lawn equipment and get it to and from the property, since the families do not own any equipment.

We are looking for help finding, writing, and obtaining grants for our missions, marketing, and expansion. We would appreciate any help, or any length of time with this endeavor!

Virtual Client Advocate/Mentor:  Advocate can set their own schedule.  Using the Bright Course Program, you will send lessons to clients, either to their phone or computer.  The Advocate can set a time with the client to call and review the lesson and discuss practical applications of the new skills. Clients can complete prenatal and parenting classes and receive a call from the Advocate once a week.  Clients will earn Baby Bucks so that they can shop in the baby store.  Clients can purchase items to be sent to their home or come into the baby store to shop. Advocate will enter case notes and lesson participation into a database after each call.

G.R.O.W. stands for Growing Refugee Opportunity and Wealth, and it is a community-driven Bridge Refugee Services initiative centered on fostering sustained self-sufficiency through culturally informed vocational training, wellness education, and entrepreneurial opportunities.  We are expanding this program in partnership with the Knox Co. Community Gardens & Growers Alliance to provide gardening plots and tools; teach gardening skills; and provide the appropriate entrepreneurial instruction to navigate the local farmer’s markets.

We would love to use your valuable language knowledge to serve our local refugee population as a volunteer interpreter for these gardening classes and entrepreneurial instruction.

The Child Advocacy Center in Lenoir City is looking for individuals who have a heart for helping children.  We are an organization that provides assistance to children and families who have been impacted by abuse.  We provide counseling, forensic interviews, resources and support.  Duties may include answering phones and providing support to clients, occupying children during appointments, assisting with fundraisers, assisting with mailouts and clerical duties.  Volunteers must be 21 years of age and complete a background check and fingerprinting before becoming eligible.  Help us to "Heal the pain of child abuse."

The three pillars of success for refugees in the United States are learning English, employment, and community engagement.  With our new G.R.O.W. program, we hope to provide our refugees a path to accomplish all three.

G.R.O.W. stands for Growing Refugee Opportunities and Wealth, and it is a community-driven Bridge Refugee Services initiative centered on fostering sustained self-sufficiency through culturally informed vocational training, wellness education, and entrepreneurial opportunities.  Right now, the program is centered around teaching sewing as a marketable skill, ESL, and the entrepreneurial instruction to use this new skill to bring in a steady income. 

We are looking for volunteers to help us as floaters/assistants, with transportation, with set-up and tear-down, and with childcare.  No sewing experience, foreign language skills, or experience with working with refugee populations needed!

This opportunity is on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9:30am-12:30pm at First Presbyterian Church.

Purpose/Overview:  KARM is focused on providing multiple opportunities for our guests to obtain their goals related to movement out of homelessness and away from the events that brought them to KARM.  Many of our programs are designed with courses of study to assist in this process.  Elective classes are designed to allow the New Life men time to unwind and learn about healthy and fun activities outside of KARM’s doors.

Purpose/Overview:  KARM is focused on providing multiple opportunities for our residents to obtain their goals related to movement out of homelessness and away from the events that brought them to KARM.  It is vital for our New Life Program residents to attend necessary off-site appointments to continue on their path of transformation.  Our volunteer transporters are there to transport residents to and from appointments, providing a safe, nurturing, and reliable environment for them while they’re out in the community.

Description/Purpose:  With over 350 men, women, and children daily seeking meals, resources, and shelter at KARM, it is important that our facility and surrounding area represent an atmosphere of care and cleanliness.  The Operation Make KARM Shine project assists in conveying hope, second chances, and love to our guests who call KARM home.   Your group would assist in cleaning inside and outside KARM with tasks such as: window washing, laundry, vacuuming, deep cleaning our program areas, and other tasks as needed.

Purpose/Overview: The Care Center Volunteer will provide overwhelming Biblical hospitality to guests who are seeking ministry services at KARM. This volunteer has a passion for working through relationships and conversations that will connect our guests with needed services and support. The skilled Volunteer will have the freedom and flexibility to foster relationships with guests at KARM through encounters in a numerous areas of the KARM Care Center with a focus on mental and physical health services through collaboration with other agencies and medical professionals.  This is a specific assignment to assist the physicians in the Care Center. 

The KARM ministry equation of Rescue+Relationships=Restoration is a guiding mission for this role.

Responsibilities:

Time Commitment:  One 4 hour shift per week, M-F, hours are 8-11am and/or 1-3:30pm.

Purpose/Overview: Plan and host an evening activity for men experiencing a season of homelessness. Christ-centered activities include but are not limited to: game night, small group Bible study, movie night, etc. Neal's Place is the name of the activity room in the men's dorm.

Time Commitment: Approximately one 3-hour shift per month.  Neal’s Place is open from 6p-9p.

Purpose/Overview: Manage and organize the inventory of clothing and personal care items on hand at the shelter in order to make distribution to guests easy for staff. This is also a unique opportunity to pray for our guests who will be wearing the clothes and using the other items.

Time Commitment:  2 hours each, Tuesday or Friday afternoons

Training/Preparation: Volunteer will have on-the-job training with staff the first one – two days of work and should feel free to ask questions of staff as they arise.

Time Commitment: Approximately 1-3 hour shift per month.  Betty’s Place is open from 6:30p-9p.

Purpose/Overview: Engage guests with the intent to establish trust, build relationships, and convey compassion. Allow personal testimony to influence and motivate guests toward solutions for their life, while pointing towards a relationship with Christ as the answer.

Responsibilities:

Time Commitment:  One two to four-hour shift per week.  One-year commitment. 

Shifts are 9am-12pm or 1-4:00pm

Qualifications:

Purpose/Overview:  LaunchPoint is a four-week program which helps homeless men and women begin a new life journey. During the four-week period, a class of approximately 30 participants begin discovering God’s plan and purpose for their lives, develop their own life plan with realistic goals, and learn to implement their life plan in manageable steps.  The focus of LaunchPoint is on moving forward and making good choices. 

Table facilitators will facilitate session icebreakers and devotionals as well as give instructions for activities and exercises. Purpose/Overview: The First Encounter Specialist will be an initial connection to guests who are seeking ministry services at KARM. The specific resources and direction needed to navigate housing, work, disability, probation, or other challenges can be overwhelming.  The First Encounter Specialist will have the opportunity to welcome guests into the ministry and programs at KARM, gather information and begin to build relationships, as well as assist guests in working toward overcoming the many challenges presented by homelessness.

Safe Health Adventures Developing Essential Skills

SHADES of Development believes that children learn and grow with every interaction they encounter during their waking hours of the day. Groundskeeping for 36 residences is a full-time job even for our efficient and skilled maintenance department. Plus consider our home office location can be a tremendous responsibility as well. We take pride in the landscaping at our residences but also need to maintain a level of quality and aesthetics at our home office location. We are looking for individuals to volunteer on a monthly basis to do some general weeding and plant and shrub maintenance at our office at 1400 East 5th Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917.

As part of our goal to support the independence of the individuals we serve, Sertoma has 36 supervised residences that provide homes for 95 individuals. There is general maintenance required to take care of these homes. One task that we desperately need help with is regular pressure washing of the exterior of the homes. We would like to have a couple individuals volunteer a few hours to come to one of our homes and pressure wash. Volunteers would need to be physically able to lift and handle a pressure washer.

This volunteer opportunity would be ideal for any students fulfilling their requirements to their TN Promise scholarship.

We need students to volunteer to help tutor students in the Knox County Schools in Kindergarten to 8th Grade. Tutoring sessions are 30 minutes long and would me on Monday & Tuesday from 6:00pm-7:00pm and Thursday from 6:00pm-6:30pm. 

CASA is looking for volunteers able to commit to at least one year of service as Court Appointed Special Advocates. The 30 hour training and 3 hours of court observation prepare future CASAs for their role as advocates for children in abuse and neglect cases in the Knox County Juvenile Court. 

CASA volunteers are everyday citizens that judges appoint to advocate for the safety and well-being of children who have been removed from their homes due to parental abuse and neglect. They stand up for these children and change their lives. CASA volunteers listen first. Then they act. Volunteers get to know the child and talk with everyone in that child’s life—parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them. Being a CASA volunteer does not require any special education or background, just a heart for children and a willingness to speak out and represent their best interests.

You must be 21 or over, pass background checks, participate in a 33-hour pre-service training course and agree to stay with a case until it is closed (a year and a half on average).

Volunteers must attend all training sessions.

Center Client Advocate/Mentor:  Work one-on-one with clients.  Training for client is based on Bright Course Program.  Schedule a time for client to enroll in program, after enrolled, classes are scheduled based on client need.  For example, videos on pregnancy, parenting, life skills, etc.  After each class, lesson is reviewed with client and discussion of practical applications of the new skills in the client's life situation.  Clients earn Baby Bucks to enable them to shop in the baby store.  Clients can complete classes once a week.

Center Helper:  

     Organize donations, re-stock baby store, and occasionally help a client shop in the store

     General Office work; greeting clients, paperwork filing, and assisting with special projects

Data Entry Volunteer:  Pregnancy Help Center keeps all client information on a database.  Volunteers are needed to enter information for each client visit, class completed, baby bucks earned, and client needs.

Columbus Home Assisting Parents (C.H.A.P.) is a home-based parent education and support service that provides parenting education, crisis intervention, and case management for families that are experiencing life stressors that impact parenting abilities. C.H.A.P. services are provided free of charge to parents.  By working to increase parents’ skills and coping abilities, the goal of C.H.A.P. is to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the home.

Additionally, the C.H.A.P. caseworker assists families in locating and utilizing other services in the community with the goal of empowering the family so that they can recognize issues as they arise and find their own positive solutions. Individuals and agencies are encouraged to share CHAP’s information with families but as services are considered voluntary, the family must self-refer.

Duration of services varies, based on the family's specific needs, but usually lasts between three and six months.
In operation since 1985, C.H.A.P. is funded in part by the state and is a licensed child abuse prevention agency. Services are provided at no cost to families, and the program operates under the auspices of Title VI.

Volunteer need: assist clients with transporting furniture on an as needed basis.  Many clients do not have access to a truck and are unable to carry furniture without assistance.

The Gateway is a recovery community center, based off a national evidence-based model to provide additional supports and on-going recovery to those transitioning from addiction treatment back into the community or who are seeking recovery, but need someone to walk beside them as they navigate a path free from substance misuse. At The Gateway, we provide a variety of services including harm reduction, recovery coaching, treatment and sober living referrals, daily recovery meetings, music therapy, and more.

The Gateway is in need of volunteers for a variety of services. Because of the nature of this work, we do require volunteers to submit an application and agree to a background check. A criminal background does not exclude a volunteer from serving with MDC; however, those with a history of violent criminal acts or sexual offenses are encouraged not to apply.

Help Bridge Refugees Welcome New Refugees to Knoxville

Are you looking for a fulfilling volunteer opportunity? Well, look no further! We are looking for Community Assistance Teams (CATs) to help us welcome arriving refugee families to Knoxville. Newly arriving refugee families are the main focus of this program, but there are opportunities to work with families that have already arrived in Knoxville and could use some additional help. 

A CAT is a group of 7-15 or more individuals that will partner with Bridge and partner with a refugee family. You will walk beside the family for six months, help welcome them to the community, and assist the family with their integration in Knoxville.

Some specific ways CATs assist families include the following:

· Apartment set-up

· Welcoming the family at the airport

· Preparing a culturally appropriate hot meal for the family’s arrival

· Purchasing culturally appropriate groceries to stock the refrigerator and cabinets

· Transportation to and from appointments

· Community orientation guides to help the family learn the culture and the
community

· ESL assistance

· Deliveries to the family

· In-kind donations of household goods

In addition to these practical needs above, arriving families need community. These families left everything and everyone they know, often coming to Knoxville not knowing anyone. CAT can offer a community to welcome these families to the area and build new relationships these families so desperately need.

This is the most flexible and non-committal way to give back and meet some great people.  We have such a need to get our seniors to their essential appointments.  We still have people on our waitlist who we can't help.  We need you!!  You can choose from the appointments, times and locations that best works for you and you can even run your own errands at the same time.  No set days and we will not call you, it is completely up to you and your schedule all we ask for is 1 ride a month.  We make it as easy as we can for you and our clients.  Please contact us for more information.

be responsible for supporting our administrative team helping us stay organized and complete tasks that allow T3 Corp's team to focus on more advanced responsibilities. Their duties organizing meetings for Administrators, composing documents on behalf of Administrators.

The administrative assistant will provide support to managers, and other employees by handling a variety of tasks in order to ensure that all interactions between the organization and others are positive and productive.

Docents are the interpretive guides who conduct exhibition tours for all audiences. A background in Art, Art History or Art Education is not required to participate in our docent program. Docents must be motivated to learn about different subjects to enhance their tours and personal knowledge of art. Being a docent requires time and effort, as well as enthusiasm and flexibility. The commitment is substantial, but so is the payoff.

Samaritan Place provides shelter and support for seniors in crisis. It is one of a handful of such programs in the United States where a complete continuum of care from emergency to independent housing, is offered for this population. Because homelessness issues are different for seniors than for their younger counterparts, Samaritan Place provides not only shelter and nourishment, but intensive case management focused on that population’s unique needs.

Samaritan Place offers emergency,  transitional, and permanent housing services, which allow the guest and his/her case worker the time needed for appropriate evaluation and arrangement of the best possible living situation and supportive services. Through our permanent supportive housing program, we are able to offer housing to some seniors who would not be able to maintain independent housing without some additional supports.
 
Samaritan Place focuses on the core outcomes of increased control, decreased vulnerability, access to resources, and an improved support network. Our overarching goal is to help ensure that each guest is able to live in the most independent environment possible that still ensures his or her safety.

Seniors come to Samaritan Place through traditional homeless shelters, hospitals, Adult Protective Services, and other community resources. Basic eligibility criteria are: age 60 and older; not a threat to self or others; ambulatory; and able to manage daily activities with minimal assistance.

Volunteer needs: Share your talents - play an instrument, sing, magic tricks; Put on an event - Luau, Prom night, bingo/games, movie night, be creative and share your event; Direct care support - laundry, kitchen prep, cleaning; Companions - just listen, talk, share memories, be there.

Columbus Home Children’s Shelter and Assessment Center (CESAC) provides 24 hour/365 days per year shelter for children from birth to 17 years of age who have been removed from the home by authorities due to allegations of abuse, neglect or other endangerment.  Duration of stay may be as long as 10 days. Children receive safe, loving care while authorities work to place them with appropriate kin or in foster care.

Volunteers are needed to interact, care for and provide activities to engage the children.  There are requirements that must be met to be able to work with the children.

Our Food Rescue Drivers are responsible for safely and efficiently picking up donated products from various donors such as, grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, etc. Donated products are delivered to partner agencies (food pantries, shelters, senior and disabled housing facilities, etc.,) or brought back to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution. Food Rescue Drivers and volunteers are required to positively act as an ambassador for Second Harvest Food Bank to maintain and build donor relationships, agency partnerships, and community support.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Represent Second Harvest Food Bank in a professional, positive, and efficient manner to increase our distribution abilities, enhance donor relationships and improve partner agency satisfaction.

Work with Staff to safely and efficiently pick up a wide variety of donated products from grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, etc. on regular reoccurring routes. Food Rescue Drivers will from time to time be asked to pick up “call in” donations in addition to the regular route.

Work with Staff to adjust route accordingly to maximize time, meet the needs of our donors and our partner agencies. Specified times will apply.

Work with Staff to deliver donated goods to partner agencies (churches, shelters, senior housing facilities, schools, etc.) for distribution to the community or bring back to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution.

Work with Staff to complete accurate reports for donations received and donations delivered daily and provide this documentation to designated staff.

Work with Staff to Provide excellent customer service and communication to donors and partner agencies (grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, schools, churches, senior centers, etc.) including a timely response to phone calls and emails.

Work with Staff to maintain a clean truck (cab of truck and food storage box) and any other equipment (pallet jacks, hand trucks/dollies, etc.)

The animal shelter in Madisonville has a minimum staff.  The animals need more care and attention than the staff can provide.  Some of the  tasks at the shelter are dog walking, cat enrichment, socializing, cleaning, doing laundry, greeters and front desk work.  Volunteering just a few hours a week is a huge help.

In an effort to find homes for as many animals as possible, dogs and cats are  transported to rescue destinations, most often out of state, where they are quickly adopted.  Drivers, who can also load and unload the animals, are needed for these transports.

Foster homes provide temporary homes for animals in need. 

Three or four times a year there is an adoption event  (e.g. at a Petsmart store).  Volunteers are needed to tend to the animals throughout the day.  Usually this is  for 3 hours on a Saturday.

Operation Backyard, a program of the Knoxville Leadership Foundation, works to strengthen the very fabric of our community by joining materials, volunteers, and homeowners to make needed home repairs. The only way we can do this is by having dedicated Crew Leaders from the community. Crew Leaders are volunteers who work on homes to perform repairs projects such as install ramps, repair access porches, paint homes, and some roofing. The Crew Leaders will work closely with the Operation Backyard Staff to plan for the home repairs. Operation Backyard Crew leaders are individuals that have a desire to help and can potentially lead others to complete repairs all while maintaining the focus on the family we are helping with repairs.

With 7.5 acres of greenspace atop Mabry's Hill and a single staff member, volunteers provide vital in maintaining and beautifying our historic site. Mabry-Hazen House sits at the center of a level 1 arboretum, and green thumbs are necessary to take care of the diverse flora. There are two primary opportunities to volunteer with our grounds:

Are you a compassionate and caring person? 
We are looking for you!  Caris provides hospice care throughout TN.  The end of life can be a difficult and lonely time for patients and/or their loved ones.  Volunteers can provide additional support to them at this very difficult time.  We have also learned that veterans have unique needs at the end of life that only another veteran will understand. 

Volunteers provide companionship to patients who are located in nursing facilities, assisted living, and homes.  It may be reading, listening to music or playing bingo with a patient.  Often patients in centers do not have many visitors and enjoy having additional company.  For home patients, volunteers provide respite for caregivers so they can go shopping, pick up medicines, or just have a meal with a friend. 

Volunteers do not do any hands-on care (no moving patient from a bed to a chair, taking to the bathroom, etc.).  Caris pays for patient volunteers to have a two-step TB test, drug test, and background checks.  Training starts with a two hour orientation and finishes with computer training that can be completed either at home, our office, or your local library.

Stop by soon to make sure you get the choice of the best buys. All proceeds go to help the homeless animals of Monroe County. These proceeds help cover medications, medical procedures and much more.

Donations of items are greatly appreciated and are accepted Wednesday-Saturday from 10am – 3:30pm. Your donations are tax deductible.  If you need help with a pickup, please call the store at (423)-420-3423

Volunteer

We’re always looking for volunteers to help at the store. If you have time, we’d love to have you as part of our “Thrifty Team.”  Stop in sometime and meet our all-volunteer staff.   Learn why they contribute their time and energy to assure better lives for the homeless cats and dogs in our community.  

Duties would include intake of donated items, transport of items, cashier, staging and stocking store.  Flexible shifts.  Store is open 4 days a week and from 10 am t0 4 pm.  Located in Madisonville TN.  Again, we can work with you on your shift or shifts.

Monroe County Animal Shelter is currently experiencing a large influx of strays resulting

in an overcrowding situation that is causing them to consider what it means to make space, including euthanasia.

 MCFA has worked diligently for years to help save lives by getting animals new homes as quickly

as possible. This has been accomplished by lowering intake numbers through our free voucher SNAP

program, foster care, and education for the public.

Amachi Knoxville, an initiative of Knoxville Leadership Foundation, is constantly looking for positive, adult mentors to walk alongside our mentees in and around Knoxville. Our program serves youth ages 4-17 with a specific emphasis on youth who have been impacted by the incarceration of a caregiver. We offer both 1:1 community-based and group site-based mentoring.  Our program offers an opportunity to build a friendship and have fun with a child through mentorship. Everyone benefits from having a friend. A person we can talk to, trust, and “do life” with. This is what mentoring looks like: friendship. Think about your own life, and the presence of parents, church leaders, teachers, coaches, scout leaders, mentors etc. These key relationships in our lives influence who we become
