The Bilingual Language Ambassadors program is an opportunity for volunteers to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for our diverse families at Community Schools Family Engagement Events. Life Community Impact Network is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make our 6th Annual Good Neighbors Community Fair & Block Party a successful day of community connection, resources, entertainment, and family fun.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 26, from 12:00 PM–4:00 PM at Danny Mayfield Park in Knoxville. The Good Neighbors Community Fair & Block Party brings together local families, nonprofit organizations, businesses, community partners, vendors, and volunteers for an afternoon designed to connect residents with helpful resources while creating a welcoming and enjoyable community experience.

We need volunteers to assist in several areas before, during, and immediately following the event. Volunteer opportunities may include:

• Event setup and breakdown
• Greeting and welcoming attendees
• Registration and check-in
• Helping direct attendees to activities, vendors, and resource areas
• Assisting vendors and community partners with locating their assigned areas
• Children’s and family activity areas
• Food and refreshment areas
• Helping maintain clean and organized event spaces
• General event support and “where needed” assistance

Volunteers do not need prior event experience. We are looking for dependable, friendly individuals who are comfortable working with the public and willing to help wherever needed to create a positive experience for our guests.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for individuals, students needing community service hours, civic and community groups, employee volunteer teams, and anyone who enjoys serving the community.

Volunteers may be assigned to different areas based on event needs, availability, age, and ability. Additional instructions and assignments will be provided prior to or upon arrival at the event.

Some of East Tennessee's best musicians will share their talent with us as they host a concert to benefit the work of Girls on the Run of Greater Knoxville. It's an evening you won't want to miss, complete with live music, food and drinks, a silent auction, and so much more!

Day Shift (10 AM - 2:30 PM) requires some heavy lifting to set up the venue for the event.

Evening Shift (5 PM - 9:30 PM) includes check-in, food service, and other tasks, as needed.

Volunteers will help load grocery boxes into our vehicle and travel with us to LaFollette to help distribute food boxes as we sign families up for Christmas assistance.

Your primary responsibility is greeting visitors as they arrive at the door. Volunteers serve as friendly hosts for students, families, artists, and guests, offering a warm welcome and helping people find their way around the Center.

Volunteer Shifts:
Setup: (4:00 PM – 7:00 PM)
Set up cots / bedding, tables & chairs, and open kitchen.

Welcome & Guest Processing: (5:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
Welcome & Direct guests to the facility resources and explain the rules & responsibilities.

Kitchen: (5:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
Warm pre-made meals and prepare & serve beverages.

Guest Service: (5:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
Distribute needed items and materials to individual guests.

Overnight Watch: (9:00 PM – 6:00 AM) - Divided into three two-person shifts (9–12, 12–3, and 3–6).
Responsibilities include verifying headcounts, keeping overwatch, and monitoring restrooms and early risers.

Morning & Cleanup: (6:00 AM – 9:00 AM)
Wake guests, serve simple breakfast, hand out bus passes, and return secured items. Break down, sanitize, and reset the gymnasium to its original setup.

Volunteers will help runners check in and direct them on the right course. This is an outside position, and will require some walking and standing. We recommend wearing weather appropriate clothing, as well as closed-toed shoes. Volunteers will receive a shirt, complimentary fair tickets, and parking passes to attend the fair with their family and friends!

Please Note: A mandatory volunteer orientation will take place in September. In order to become an official volunteer with the Fair, you must attend this meeting. Also, all adults ages 18 years and older must submit to a background check. More information will be provided in a follow up email.

Regional Intervention Program (RIP) is a 12-24 week behavior modification program for children ages 2-6. The program is designed to simultaneously decrease the child’s unwanted behaviors while strengthening social skills and empowering parents to set developmentally appropriate limits and consequences for their child.

RIP group occur Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Volunteers are needed 5:00pm-8:00pm.

Qualifications

Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 3 months to the volunteer program and must be 21 years of age or older. Volunteers must enjoy and be at ease working with young children who have behavior problems.

Great Starts is a structured living program that offers integrated substance abuse and mental health treatment services to recovering pregnant and parenting women. The program utilizes evidenced-based practices for co-occurring treatment. The program’s goal is to strengthen the mother-child bond through comprehensive services for mothers and specialized care for their children. Volunteers will work with a staff person to provide childcare so the women can attend therapeutic groups.

Our volunteers work out of our Maryville warehouse in the Product Recovery area or our Repack Clean Room where we process donated and bulk food for distribution, to help feed our East Tennessee neighbors.

Volunteers also help in non-food project support roles such as cleaning, letter stuffing, and miscellaneous admin duties. 

No experience necessary! Training will be provided on-site at the beginning of the shift.

*Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age, and anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.

Beaumont Magnet Academy partners with BMA PTA for Grounds Clean Up Days throughout the year!  Volunteers will pick up trash around the outside of the school and playground, pull weeds, and trim bushes.  We want our students to be proud of their school building when they arrive everyday!  

Please bring gloves and a water bottle.  We will have some gloves available for use as well.  This event is also family friendly!  So bring the entire family!

The East Tennessee Flag Football Invitational, hosted by Special Olympics Tennessee, brings together athletes and Unified Partners for a day of competitive, inclusive flag football. Teams from across the region compete in a supportive environment that celebrates teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion.

Volunteers will support sport competition, event activities, and overall event flow while helping create a memorable experience for athletes, Unified Partners, and guests.

Join us in supporting the NorthKnoxWell Community Health Fair, a free event connecting North Knoxville families with health services, community resources, and wellness opportunities. The fair will take place from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Whittle Springs Middle School.

Many of the families attending the event are Spanish-speaking, and language support will help ensure all community members feel welcomed and are able to access the resources and services available.

Bilingual Language volunteers will assist in a variety of roles, including greeting attendees, helping with community resource and health service areas, parking support, and general event support. Parking volunteers will begin at 8:30 AM, while all other volunteers should arrive by 9:00 AM.

Looking for a lower-key way to make a real difference in the Garden? Every Wednesday morning, our greenhouse plants need some gentle care, and this is a great option if you want meaningful impact without heavy lifting or strenuous work. A horticulture team member will get you started, then leave you to it: just you, the plants, and the quiet rhythm of watering. Many volunteers find it a peaceful, almost meditative hour - a nice pocket of calm and quiet reflection in the week.

Depending on the week, we may ask for help with small tasks around the greenhouse, as time and ability allows.

Special Olympics Tennessee Fitness Program is a wellness initiative focused on fitness, nutrition, and mental health for teens and adults (ages 13+) with intellectual disabilities. Through goal-setting and measurable outcomes, we aim to empower athletes to take control of their health and reduce the disparities often faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities.

One of our key programs, Train 4 Life, is a 12-week fitness, nutrition, and wellness series. Each session lasts 60 minutes and is designed to help athletes build healthy habits in a supportive, inclusive environment. Weekly workout sessions starting August 24th through November 14th. This will be the second of our three annual workdays at the Oak Ridge Cedar Barrens. Located next to Jefferson Middle School in Oak Ridge, the barrens is a joint project of the City of Oak Ridge, the State Natural Areas Division, and TCWP. One of just a few cedar barrens in East Tennessee, the area is subject to invasion by Chinese lespedeza, Japanese privet, autumn olive, mimosa, Nepal grass, multiflora rose, and woody plants that threaten the systems’ prairie grasses. Our spring, summer, and fall cleanups help to eliminate invasives and other shade-producing plants that prevent the prairie grasses from getting needed sun. The late-summer workday is optimum for viewing prairie wildflowers that flourish at the barrens.

Volunteers should meet in the Jefferson Middle School parking lot at 9 a.m.; wear sturdy shoes, and bring loppers, gloves, and water. A pizza lunch will be provided.

The sixth annual East Knoxville Community Cleanup will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 9am-12pm. The event base will be at Ashley Nicole Dream Playground, located at 620 Winona Street, Knoxville, TN 37917. 

We will be removing litter from East Knoxville roads, creeks, and parks. We also will have a special partnership with Ijams Nature Center to remove invasive species at Dr. Walter Hardy Park.

Participants of any age are welcome! We look forward to seeing those who live, work, or play in East Knoxville - as well as anyone who wants to lend a helping hand. Thank you for keeping Knoxville beautiful! 

There are four volunteer options: two to sign up as an individual picking up litter, one to remove invasive species, and one to sign up as a group. Please only fill out the section that applies to you.

PLAYOLOGIST VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION 

Playologist volunteers at Muse Knoxville work alongside our Guest Experience team to help facilitate discovery, exploration and play with our exhibit spaces and programming, while helping to maintain a clean and safe space for all. This volunteer is managed by the Vice President of Operations and the Guest Experience team. Any questions or concerns regarding scheduled shifts, hours verification, etc. will be directed to Shelby Cornell at shelby@themuseknoxville.org.  

SCHEDULE: This volunteer opportunity occurs during Muse’s operating hours. Volunteer shifts are typically 3 hours in length, but can vary from 2-6 hours depending on the volunteer. Shifts are scheduled via Give Pulse, Volunteer East Tennessee, or other volunteer recruitment platform.

WHEN VOLUNTEERING AS A PLAYOLOGIST, YOU WILL … 

Engage with children and families on the exhibit floor by interacting with them in our exhibit spaces

Help maintain museum safety and cleanliness by sanitizing individual toys and surfaces with bleach solution

Pick up toys and exhibit items and return them to their proper place

Be aware of your surroundings and let a staff member know if you see something unsafe, witness an injury, or see a lost child or a parent looking for a lost child

Communicate any items needed on exhibit floor to a staff member (Makespace supplies, Draw Alive copies, etc.)

Answer questions from guests as applicable and/or direct them to the nearest staff member

Facilitate Daily Discovery activity table as directed by staff

Complete other tasks as assigned by staff

Complete outdoor tasks as assigned by staff based on availability and need including but not limited to pulling weeds, spreading mulch, leaf blowing, painting, etc. 

In Makespace exhibit area:

Monitor children and ensure the safe use of the hot glue guns

Facilitate creativity and discovery by asking questions, encouraging children, and helping them find supplies

Restock supplies if bins are low or empty

Clean off tables and surfaces

Sweep the floor often and before the end of your shift

Needing volunteers to search for area music festivals and build an informational page for me to have the contact, dates, deadlines, etc. that we can apply to be a part of. Needing volunteers to search for grants both local and national that I can apply for that are geared for music, the arts, international focus, singing, choral, musical theatre, etc.

I would like the volunteer hours to be spent looking for grants that we could apply to that fit our youth choir. I would also like the volunteer to type up a document of the grant, contact info, deadlines, and any information that would be helpful about that grant.

We need a go-getter who wants to help us succeed in finding funding.

S.O.U.L.S. Youth Choir needs someone to volunteer time helping to keep our social media and website up to date. We need someone to help us widen our network of viewership of our posts. Help us know what we are doing wrong? Do you have skills that you could teach us?

Museum of Appalachia, Norris Tennessee – Annual Fall Heritage Days on Thursday & Friday, October 22 & 23, and the following week, Thursday & Friday, October 29 & 30, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

The Museum's signature educational program includes demonstrations where things are made by hand—corn shuck and apple head dolls, brooms, baskets, butter, fiber arts, powder horns, rugs, soap, lard, and barrels. Blacksmiths, coopers, and woodworkers will showcase their craft, while demonstrations of rail splitting and beekeeping highlight the skills that sustained early Appalachian communities. Traditional musicians and dancers will will add to the atmosphere. Students can also try their hand at interactive activities designed to bring Appalachian history to life. From crosscut sawing and quill-pen writing to spelling bees, candle dipping, and classic games, these experiences offer engaging ways to learn about the daily lives of early settlers. Other highlights include storytelling, folklore and colonial history presentations, old-fashioned schoolhouse lessons, Appalachian music, circle dancing, shape-note singing, and animal encounters. We need volunteers to help make this program a truly memorable experience for children!  Shifts are available, or work an entire day, 8:30am to 3:00 with lunch provided!

Help us prepare for the NorthKnoxWell Community Health Fair by joining our setup crew the evening before the event! We're looking for 10–15 volunteers who are comfortable with physical activity and able to lift and move tables, chairs, and event supplies around the school. This is a hands-on opportunity that plays a critical role in making sure our community health fair is ready to welcome many families the next day.

Volunteers should be able to work as part of a team, follow directions, and be prepared for a shift that may include lifting, carrying, and walking throughout the event space.

Your support behind the scenes will help create a welcoming, organized event that connects families with valuable health resources and services the next day.

Born out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wesley House’s Red Bird Community Store began as an urgent response to food insecurity. Today, it stands as a permanent pillar of our mission, serving the Beaumont, Lonsdale, and Mechanicsville communities. What started as a simple food pantry has grown into a fully stocked donation center, providing not only groceries but also clothing, toiletries, and essential household items to those in need. Please do not show up without getting a confirmation email from a Wesley House staff member.

The Salvation Army of Knoxville is preparing to open a Community Care Hub in its vacant building located on its campus on North Broadway St. This is a new initiative designed bring together service providers and community agencies that will work together to connect individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability with healthcare and other vital community resources.

We are seeking dependable volunteers to serve as the first point of contact for guests visiting the center. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys meeting people, has a welcoming personality, and believes every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

Provide one-on-one transportation assistance to seniors and people with disabilities. As a volunteer driver you transport and assist the rider to and from destinations safely. Also help as needed with mobility aids, paperwork, and making sure the rider doesn't fall or get lost. Our specialized service is door-through-door to help our riders get to and from safely.

The Salvation Army of Knoxville is looking for volunteers to help at our reception desk and to assist with various clerical tasks.

The person(s) who help with this will:

Help is needed on Fridays from 9:30 am to noon and/or from 1 pm to 4 pm, however we can adjust that schedule slightly to fit your schedule if needed. This is a great volunteer spot for college students, recent retirees, stay-at-home parents looking to get out of the house, etc.

Because we must train volunteers on certain tasks, we prefer someone who can be here consistently - for example: every Friday from 1-3, or every other Friday from 9:30-12.

Our emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. We are required to pick-up those donations on an ongoing basis. We are seeking individuals to pick up food donations from local grocery stores.

We currently have two dedicated volunteers for this project who are taking some time off for the summer, so we need your help! 

Days and Times:

We have pick-ups at locations on North Broadway and near the university on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Pick-ups occur in the mornings sometime between 9:30 am and noon. Typically the whole process from arrival to departure takes about 1 1/2 hours., so the start time is somewhat flexible. Volunteers may choose any one of these days or multiple days per week.

We are seeking volunteers who can be here at least one morning per week, although we know that sometimes there will be changes to a regular schedule.

We also need substitute drivers who can fill in when our regular drivers aren't available.

Background Checks:

Note that volunteers will drive Salvation Army vehicles for the pick-ups (either a mini-van or a full-size pick-up truck). For that reason, all volunteers for this project must be background checked and we must pull a driving record.

Every Tuesday evening the Salvation Army of Sevierville's Club Red Shield provides an accepting, positive, and challenging environment where young people of every background have a safe place to learn and grow. We are seeking volunteers who can lead basic music classes for our youth in this fun club!

National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the largest single-day volunteer effort for America’s public lands. Each year, thousands of volunteers come together on the fourth Saturday in September to help restore, improve, and enjoy public lands around the country.

As a way to recognize NPLD and participate in the TN Serves initiative, help the staff of Seven Islands State Birding Park with maintaining the Wild Yards Garden at the park on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Staff and volunteers will roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty, and work together to pull weeds as part of our late summer maintenance of the gardens. The weeds can seem overwhelming, but as the saying goes, "Many hands make light work." Bring your family, friends, co-workers, teammates, neighbors, or anyone really that wants to help pull those pesky weeds from the beautiful garden area. Instructions will be provided to all volunteers that participate, and park staff will be available throughout the morning too for instructions or clarification/identification of anything. Some tools/gloves will be available for volunteers to use, but if you have your own tools/gloves that you would like to use please bring them along. 

This weekend will also coincide with the Girl Scouts Love State Parks event happening at state parks all across the country. This is a great opportunity for Girl Scouts to give back to the park and help out with the natural resource management of the park to benefit the visitors and wildlife!

Volunteers wishing to participate in this volunteer day should plan on arriving at the Bluebird Barn at the main entrance to the park off of Kelly Lane starting at 8:00am or 1:00pm, as this will be an all-day volunteer opportunity. The volunteer day will wrap up no later than 5:00pm, but volunteers are not required to stay the entire morning, afternoon, or day. Park staff will be available the entire day to provide assistance and instructions. Beaumont Magnet Academy partners with Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church and Second Harvest to provide weekly food bags for students facing food instability at home.  These food bags provide snacks and easy to make meals for students over the weekend when students do not have access to the free breakfast and free lunch provided by the school.  Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church graciously packs the food bags for BMA every week easing the burden on school staff.  We are looking for volunteers to pick up the food bags from the church and transport them to the school on Thursdays so bags can be distributed and go home with students on Friday.  

Volunteers will pick up food bags for Beaumont Magnet Academy's Back Pack Buddy program from Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church (510 E Oklahoma Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917) and deliver to Beaumont Magnet Academy at 1211 Beaumont Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37921.

When you arrive at Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church, ring the bell by the door and a church volunteer will bring out the bags and help you move bags into your vehicle.  Once at Beaumont Magnet Academy, pull up to Door 4 (the door with the ramp), and reach out to Katie Cooper, Community Schools Site Coordinator at 757-749-8176 and she will meet you outside with a cart to bring bags into the school.  If she is unavailable, you can come to the main office and staff will assist you.

Loudon and Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteer cashiers for our ReStores. We have locations in Madisonville and Lenoir City. Shifts are 3-4 hours long. We have AM and PM (afternoon) shifts available. We are looking for volunteers that can take at least one shifts per month. 

Loudon and Monroe County Habitat is in need of volunteers for upcoming construction site tasks. No experience is required. There will be task leaders onsite to provide guidance. This important volunteer role will respond to local disasters and provide Disaster Mental Health (DMH) services to clients and Red Cross workers during preparedness, response, and recovery within a chapter or region following local disasters.

This position is responsible for responding during local emergencies to provide Disaster Mental Health interventions and help facilitate long-term recovery for clients impacted by a disaster and assist the chapter in developing partnerships with local mental health agencies.

Experience and up to date credentials are required for this particular role. All Red Cross training will be provided during onboarding.

GMA needs 5 volunteers to come and organize clothing and hygiene donations that we have received. Ideally during the school day, but I would be happy to set up times with volunteers to come to help after school or on a Saturday. 

This is a committee of Belle Morris caregivers and parents that work to support our school through advocacy, service, and fundraising. They contribute towards the school partnership/leadership, student incentives and experiences, and staff support. 

We need regular help in the library restocking shelves, organizing shelves, and rescanning books in. We also need assistance with daily dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and book repair. We are looking to organize our new Enginarium and labeling locations (think well organized Garage Tools). We will need assistance decorating bulletin boards and designing logos and promotional items. Something I am also interested in is getting some drone footage of our school, some shots of the school from cool angles, and maybe even highlighting our outdoor learning space!

Many caregivers have requested mentors for their West View students and are on waitlists for mentor matches. Having a “buddy” gives a student the opportunity to connect one-on-one with a positive, supportive adult role model.

Buddies come to the school once a week to visit with a student, usually during lunch/recess time. Chat with them during lunch, read a book with them, play a game, or do an activity together.

As a Travel Unity volunteer, you’ll connect with people from around the world and engage with professionals across the travel industry. Volunteers contribute to real projects that support Travel Unity's mission.

All volunteers begin with one of two projects:

• Spotlight: A short profile of a travel professional, exploring their career path and why inclusion matters in their work.
• Case Study: A look at how an organization is working to make travel more welcoming for different kinds of travelers.

Volunteers should be comfortable working as part of a team, communicating regularly, and participating in online meetings using Zoom.
