Volunteer: Warehouse Product Recovery: June 2026Our volunteers work out of our Maryville warehouse in the Product Recovery area or our Repack Clean Room where we process donated and bulk food for distribution, to help feed our East Tennessee neighbors. Volunteers also help in non-food project support roles such as cleaning, letter stuffing, and miscellaneous admin duties. No experience necessary! Training will be provided on-site at the beginning of the shift. *Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age, and anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Please park in the rear parking lot through the metal gate as parking in the front is limited. Volunteers enter through the double glass doors by the rear lot into our volunteer lobby. Our Location: Second Harvest Food Bank of East TN 136 Harvest Lane Maryville, TN 37801 www.secondharvestetn.org Please know you will be working in a warehouse environment and the following rules concerning dress must be followed: While casual attire is welcome; jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc., attire must be appropriate for a family environment. Wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring layers when temperatures outside are colder, as the warehouse is not heated. When temperatures become hot, we kindly suggest shorts be as long as your fingertips when your arms are resting at your side. To prevent product contamination, all summer attire must be in good repair: no rips or frays, avoid tank tops, spaghetti straps, or shirts with loose strings or ties. Open toed shoes, crop tops, and spandex are prohibited. You may be required to wear a mask, gloves, and hairnet depending on your work project. ALL hair must fit into hairnet - bring a hair band if you have long hair. Jewelry should be limited to rings only. Earrings and watches may need to be removed. Please do not bring personal items like bags and backpacks into the warehouse. Phones should never be set down on counters or pallets. Please keep phones in pockets while working in the warehouse.Additionally, please consider maximizing your impact while volunteering: bring can goods with you to donate, engage with us on social media, or make a gift online. Volunteer: Food Donation Pick-ups for Salvation Army Emergency Food PantryOur emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. We are required to pick-up those donations on an ongoing basis. We are seeking individuals to pick up food donations from local grocery stores. We currently have two dedicated volunteers for this project who are taking some time off for the summer, so we need your help! Days and Times: We have pick-ups at locations on North Broadway and near the university on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Pick-ups occur in the mornings sometime between 9:30 am and noon. Typically the whole process from arrival to departure takes about 1 1/2 hours., so the start time is somewhat flexible. Volunteers may choose any one of these days or multiple days per week. We are seeking volunteers who can be here at least one morning per week, although we know that sometimes there will be changes to a regular schedule. We also need substitute drivers who can fill in when our regular drivers aren't available. Background Checks: Note that volunteers will drive Salvation Army vehicles for the pick-ups (either a mini-van or a full-size pick-up truck). For that reason, all volunteers for this project must be background checked and we must pull a driving record. Please contact Tracy Weber directly to discuss this meaningful volunteer opportunity! 865-971-4920 tracy.weber@uss.SalvationArmy.org Organization: The Salvation Army Our emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. Volunteer: National Trails Day Work on North Ridge Trail – Saturday, June 6TCWP will host their annual National Trails Day work project on the North Ridge Trail on Saturday, June 6. Trail stewards regularly report to TCWP on trail conditions, and any large-scale work projects needing attention are addressed on National Trails Day. This year’s project will be building a small bridge over a water channel crossing the Endicott Lane access trail. We are working with experienced trail builders to prepare a design and material requirement list. On June 6 we will need volunteer hands to deliver material one-half mile to the construction site, as well as to assist in construction work. The access point is located just past 103 Endicott Lane (just off East Drive at the east end of Oak Ridge). There is room for a half-dozen cars to park safely off the road. Plan to carpool if possible. Participants should plan to arrive by 9 a.m. for a safety briefing and a review of the work. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring work gloves, water, sunscreen, and insect repellant. TCWP will provide a pizza lunch after the work is complete. Pizza and drinks will be served at Cedar Hill Park, 609 Michigan Ave., at around noon. There is plenty of parking near the covered gazebo at the park. To sign up, click here:https://forms.gle/fsSzioGLRxrnGCyu7 or scan the QR code in the image. Volunteer: Sacred SpacesImagine that you are dying, you only have a few hours left on this earth, and there is no family or friends with you. Are you scared, and feel like you don't matter? Some of our patients experience this very situation. UT Hospice has a program called Sacred Spaces that provides a loving presence during this sacred time. Sacred Spaces is a vigil program, we provide volunteers in 4 hour shifts around the clock until the patient passes. You are not there to attend to their physical needs, you are there to provide a loving peaceful presence. If you think that you could hold a hand, play soft music, read some favorite passages from a book or scripture, or just sit quitely with an individual to make their homegoing peaceful and full of love, you could be a Sacred Spaces volunteer, and we would love to talk to you.
