Volunteer: Food Donation Pick-ups for Salvation Army Emergency Food PantryOur emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. We are required to pick-up those donations on an ongoing basis. We are seeking individuals to pick up food donations from local grocery stores. We currently have two dedicated volunteers for this project who are taking some time off for the summer, so we need your help! Days and Times: We have pick-ups at locations on North Broadway and near the university on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Pick-ups occur in the mornings sometime between 9:30 am and noon. Typically the whole process from arrival to departure takes about 1 1/2 hours., so the start time is somewhat flexible. Volunteers may choose any one of these days or multiple days per week. We are seeking volunteers who can be here at least one morning per week, although we know that sometimes there will be changes to a regular schedule. We also need substitute drivers who can fill in when our regular drivers aren't available. Background Checks: Note that volunteers will drive Salvation Army vehicles for the pick-ups (either a mini-van or a full-size pick-up truck). For that reason, all volunteers for this project must be background checked and we must pull a driving record. Please contact Tracy Weber directly to discuss this meaningful volunteer opportunity! 865-971-4920 tracy.weber@uss.SalvationArmy.org Organization: The Salvation Army Our emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. Volunteer: National Trails Day Work on North Ridge Trail – Saturday, June 6TCWP will host their annual National Trails Day work project on the North Ridge Trail on Saturday, June 6. Trail stewards regularly report to TCWP on trail conditions, and any large-scale work projects needing attention are addressed on National Trails Day. This year’s project will be building a small bridge over a water channel crossing the Endicott Lane access trail. We are working with experienced trail builders to prepare a design and material requirement list. On June 6 we will need volunteer hands to deliver material one-half mile to the construction site, as well as to assist in construction work. The access point is located just past 103 Endicott Lane (just off East Drive at the east end of Oak Ridge). There is room for a half-dozen cars to park safely off the road. Plan to carpool if possible. Participants should plan to arrive by 9 a.m. for a safety briefing and a review of the work. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring work gloves, water, sunscreen, and insect repellant. TCWP will provide a pizza lunch after the work is complete. Pizza and drinks will be served at Cedar Hill Park, 609 Michigan Ave., at around noon. There is plenty of parking near the covered gazebo at the park. To sign up, click here:https://forms.gle/fsSzioGLRxrnGCyu7 or scan the QR code in the image. Organization: The University of Tennessee Medical Center Hospice Services Life is a journey, and we are needing some compassionate volunteers to help walk our patients home. We have opportunities for patient companionship, caregiver relief, running errands, preparing lite meals and doing lite housekeeping. We also have opportunities in our office to do administrative tasks and with our specialized programs, such as Branches-Veteran Centric, Willow's Friends-Our Pet Program, Sacred Spaces-Vigil Program, and Chart of Life-Serves those with Dementia. Hospice isn't all about death and dying, we are about teaching people to live life to its fullest in the time that they have. Hospice seeks to provide our patients and families with quality of life over quantity. With just 2 hours a week you can help provide people with friendship and dignity.
