Caris provides hospice care throughout TN. 

End of life can be a difficult and lonely time for patients and/or their loved ones.  Volunteers can provide additional support and friendship during.  

Patient Volunteers provide companionship to patients who are located in nursing facilities, assisted living, and private homes.  It may be reading, listening to music or playing bingo with a patient.  Often patients in centers do not have many visitors and enjoy having additional company.  For home patients, volunteers provide respite for caregivers so they can go shopping, pick up medicines, or just have a meal with a friend during this challenging time. 

Volunteers do not perform any hands-on care (no moving patient from a bed to a chair, taking to the bathroom, etc.).  Caris will cover the fees for patient volunteers to have a two-step TB test and background checks. Volunteering starts with a volunteer application and in-person orientation, completed with short computer training that can be completed either at home, our office or your local library.

WDVX needs volunteers to help chart demographic data at our daily Blue Plate Special live radio show.

The show is held M-Sat at noon in downtown Knoxville at the WDVX Blue Plate Special stage inside Visit Knoxville. On Fridays, we host the Big Plate at Barley's. 

We are looking for volunteers to come to the Blue Plate and engage with the audience to gather demographic data on the makeup of the audience and where people are traveling from to attend our live events. Typically, a volunteer would claim a specific day of the week and come every week on that day to volunteer. We currently have open needs on Tuesdays, Fridays, & Saturdays. You would be surrounded by lovers of live music in our audience and have the opportunity to interact with musical guests and WDVX personnel.

JA programs use hands on learning and fun activities to inspire students. As a JA volunteer you share your personal and professional experiences and help students make the connection between what they are learning in school and what they need to succeed in life and work.

JA provides all the materials, step-by-step instructions and a short but effective orientation. JA programs have been developed to be turn-key and hassle free for you. Volunteer opportunities can be one 3-hour visit or 30-45-minute weekly visits for 5-6 sessions. Volunteer preparation time is about 20 minutes per session.

Gentiva Hospice is seeking Veteran volunteers to honor and support our Veteran hospice patients. As a Veteran volunteer, you can provide the practical and emotional support to our patients and their families when they need it the most.

Visits can take place in their homes, as well as, nursing homes, assisted living, and memory care units.

Volunteers will be provided with ongoing one-to-one staff support throughout their service with us, and will be invited to receive educational opportunities, and appreciation events. Our volunteers must complete an application, interview, background checks, drug screen, hospice orientation, and two-tier TB test. As a warehouse warrior you will help sort donations such as clothing and baby supplies. You can also assist with creating/decorating period kits, repackaging open/loose diapers, and organizing books, toys, etc. We need your help to keep our donations organized and going back out to children who need them!

The Joy of Music School is in need of qualified music teachers to teach a weekly lesson for a minimum of one academic school year. Our primary needs are piano, violin, guitar, and percussion teachers who are available Monday through Friday from 4pm to 7pm. Girls in 6th – 12th grade from all over the city of Knoxville can apply to receive one to one mentoring.  Each girl is matched with a caring adult woman who will give her the additional support that she needs to get through life’s challenges and transitions.

Our 1:1 Mentors are there to give our girls hope, encouragement, love, support, and confidence.  Our mentors meet with their girls at least once a month to go on mentoring outings that cultivates the relationship and provide girls with a safe space to just be in such a chaotic and demanding world.

**Mobile Meals delivers meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, but help is needed all holiday season**

Mobile Meals delivers to over 1,000 homebound seniors daily Monday – Friday to every zip code in Knox County. Volunteers deliver a hot lunchtime meal that, along with the daily safety check, helps to keep individuals safe and healthy longer in their own home, where they want to be. We need over 100 volunteers deliver meals each weekday. Volunteers are always needed to help with this much needed service.

Deliveries take place 10am - 1pm, Monday-Friday. Volunteers can schedule a route to be assigned on a regular basis, can volunteer seasonally (during holiday times, during any school breaks, etc.);or can give us a list of dates or just reach out when available. Kids are welcome to come along and Students will earn 4 hours per delivery and are welcome to bring someone along with them.

Girl Talk collaborates with the Knoxville Education Foundation (formerly known as the Great Schools Partnership Community Schools Initiative), Knox County Schools, and Community Organizations to provide group mentoring services to 3rd – 5th grade girls after school. Through curriculum-based learning objectives and group mentoring, we assist in building girls’ confidence and self-esteem, preventing teen pregnancy, and increasing the likelihood of educational advancement.

Each semester, girls participate in 10-weekly group sessions facilitated by trained Girl Talk mentors. These sessions teach the girls healthy coping skills, offer a safe space to process their daily lives and feelings, and the opportunity to build a positive peer community.

Our school and site based mentors meet for one hour a week with a group of girls during an after school program. We are looking for women who are passionate about the young girls in our community and who are hoping to make a difference through mentorship.

Paws for Reading is a program that helps individuals in the community and our animals that are available for adoption. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. These advocates are specially trained volunteers represent the best interests of children in juvenile abuse and neglect court cases. CASA of the Tennessee Heartland is a local, nonprofit organization dedicated to the service of abused and neglected children in Anderson and Blount Counties.

CASA of the Tennessee Heartland is also looking for volunteers to serve in a non-advocate capacity. This opportunity is for those who are interested in volunteering with CASA but feel that advocacy is not their preferred form of service, or that they do not have time to be an advocate. While advocate volunteers and non-advocate volunteers take on different roles and responsibilities, they all work toward the same goal of serving Anderson and Blount County children.
