Our emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. We are required to pick-up those donations on an ongoing basis. We are seeking individuals to pick up food donations from local grocery stores.

We currently have two dedicated volunteers for this project who are taking some time off for the summer, so we need your help! 

Days and Times:

We have pick-ups at locations on North Broadway and near the university on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Pick-ups occur in the mornings sometime between 9:30 am and noon. Typically the whole process from arrival to departure takes about 1 1/2 hours., so the start time is somewhat flexible. Volunteers may choose any one of these days or multiple days per week.

We are seeking volunteers who can be here at least one morning per week, although we know that sometimes there will be changes to a regular schedule.

We also need substitute drivers who can fill in when our regular drivers aren't available.

Background Checks:

Note that volunteers will drive Salvation Army vehicles for the pick-ups (either a mini-van or a full-size pick-up truck). For that reason, all volunteers for this project must be background checked and we must pull a driving record.

Join us at Fountain Lanes Strike and Spare for two games of bowling. Volunteers may assist participants as needed with moving bowling ramps and placing the ball on the ramp. If you would like to bowl with us, the cost is $3 for both games, and shoe rental is included. Most importantly, come socialize, build connections, and see what the Recreation Department at Sunshine Services is all about.

OBJECTIVE: To walk alongside a newly widowed parent, meeting them where they are in the grieving process in order to alleviate everyday stressors and help build an enduring community support system for the parent.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: A Family Friend’s role is to check in on the parent for ongoing needs, assist in finding and referring parent to local services, remain apprised of changes in the parent's situation and serve not only as a liaison between the parent and WPRP Board, but also as a liaison between the parent and the community and the WPRP organization. TIME COMMITMENT: Monthly: meet with parent (at least once per month) and mandatory team meeting; total 4-6 hours (approx) per month. Agreement for parent partnership is 12-months.

Bridge Refugee Services, Inc.'s mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services offers support to over 400 refugee clients in the greater Knox Co. area, and we cannot do this without community support.

Through Second Harvest's Food Rescue Program, we have been able to create partnerships with local ethnic grocery stores and restaurants around Knoxville to combat food insecurity in the refugee community.  We would love to have volunteers help us rescue food donations from these stores and restaurants each week.  We will give you a location or locations to pick up from and you will represent Bridge as you drive to these locations to interact with store employees and pick up these donations.  Then bring these donations back to our office to help us weigh and record the donation.  Vehicles that can haul large donations are preferred, but may not be required.  This volunteer opportunity is a weekly opportunity with some flexibility.

Special Olympics Tennessee Fitness Program is a wellness initiative focused on fitness, nutrition, and mental health for teens and adults (ages 13+) with intellectual disabilities. Through goal-setting and measurable outcomes, we aim to empower athletes to take control of their health and reduce the disparities often faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities.

One of our key programs, Train 4 Life, is a 12-week fitness, nutrition, and wellness series. Each session lasts 60 minutes and is designed to help athletes build healthy habits in a supportive, inclusive environment. Weekly workout sessions starting May 4th through July 20th. The Salvation Army is seeking individuals to help serve dinner for residents in our shelters. 

Volunteers serve food from a cafeteria-style serving line and assist with other kitchen duties, as needed.  Kitchen duties can include sweeping, cleaning and disinfecting tables and/or rinsing dishes.  

Once you sign up for a shift, your volunteer shift is confirmed.

If you are volunteering as part of a group, each person in the group must sign up to volunteer separately.

Arrival time, parking, entry, and attire:

Please arrive at our Knoxville Area Command at 409 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN no later than 11:15 pm. You may park anywhere. Enter the main building facing Broadway building through our main entrance (second entrance on the front side of the building between the flag pole and playground). Let the receptionist know you are there to volunteer. You will be directed where to go once you check in at the front desk. 

If you are volunteering on a date when the main office is closed, please walk around the back of the main building to the kitchen entrance which is the last door on the raised patio.

Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Attire should also be appropriate and not include profanity, low-cut tops, or excessively short dresses or shorts.

Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) teaches participants about hazards that could
affect our community, how to prepare for them and how to help your family, neighbors, or
coworkers in the immediate aftermath of an emergency, before responders arrive.

CERT is a nationally supported initiative hosted by the Knoxville-Knox County Emergency
Management Agency (KEMA) in partnership with local emergency response agencies. The Knox
County CERT program is focused on personal preparedness training for disasters and connecting
people with local volunteer agencies for response opportunities.

CERT is free to community members and takes place 6:30-9:00 PM the first Tuesday of each month
in most cases.

Willow's Friends is a pet program that we created to help take care of patients' pets when they are no longer able to do so, either physically or mentally.  Volunteers will go in and feed, walk, play or clean up after pets or take them to Veterinary or grooming appointments.  We will even aid in the fostering or rehoming of pets before or after the patient passes.  

This program takes one thing off of our patients' and families' plate during this difficult time. If you love animals and want to make a difference in their lives and the lives of their owners, we want to talk to you.

This program was created by UT Hospice in order to give our communities Veterans a better end of life experience.  We have opportunities to serve our Veteran patients and Veterans in the community. Through this program we honor our Veterans with certificates of appreciation and lapel pins, companion our Veteran patients, educate our staff, volunteers, and the community on Veteran issues, and participate in community Veteran organizations and events. 

Life is a journey, and we are needing some compassionate volunteers to help walk our patients home.  We have opportunities for patient companionship, caregiver relief, running errands, preparing lite meals and doing lite housekeeping.  We also have opportunities in our office to do administrative tasks and with our specialized programs, such as Branches-Veteran Centric, Willow's Friends-Our Pet Program, Sacred Spaces-Vigil Program, and Chart of Life-Serves those with Dementia.

Hospice isn't all about death and dying, we are about teaching people to live life to its fullest in the time that they have. Hospice seeks to provide our patients and families with quality of life over quantity. With just 2 hours a week you can help provide people with friendship and dignity. 

Imagine that you are dying, you only have a few hours left on this earth, and there is no family or friends with you. Are you scared, and feel like you don't matter? Some of our patients experience this very situation. UT Hospice has a program called Sacred Spaces that provides a loving presence during this sacred time. Sacred Spaces is a vigil program, we provide volunteers in 4 hour shifts around the clock until the patient passes. You are not there to attend to their physical needs, you are there to provide a loving peaceful presence.

If you think that you could hold a hand, play soft music, read some favorite passages from a book or scripture, or just sit quitely with an individual to make their homegoing peaceful and full of love, you could be a Sacred Spaces volunteer, and we would love to talk to you.

We are looking for volunteers who can prepare  recently vacated shelter rooms in our women's shelter. This involves removing left-behind items and thoroughly cleaning all furniture.

We anticipate each room will take about 2 hours.

We currently have 2 rooms that need to be prepared as soon as possible so that we can welcome in new women and children who are in need of shelter.

Female volunteers are preferred since this is a women's shelter that serves domestic violence survivors.

Lakeshore Park Conservancy is always in need of volunteers to help with daily maintenance and care for the Park. Join us for Weeding Wednesday to help our grounds crew with various projects within the Park. Projects may include weeding, planting, mulching, and other outdoor tasks needed around the 185-acre Lakeshore Park. Volunteers should wear weather appropriate clothing & shoes (you may get dirty!) and bring a water bottle. Our team will have all the other supplies you need. An email will be sent the day prior to your shift indicating where to meet and a sign will be placed on the door of the Lakeshore Park Office building by the pickleball courts showing where to go.

Bridge Refugee Services, Inc.'s mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services offers support to over 400 refugee clients in the greater Knox Co. area, and we cannot do this without community support.

Recent changes in federal law have significantly limited food assistance for our newest neighbors, leaving many refugee families facing food insecurity.  At Bridge Refugee Services, we are committed to fighting against food insecurity for the refugee neighbors we serve.  We invite local partners and volunteers to help us combat food insecurity.  We need volunteers to help us receive incoming food donations, weigh and record the donations, pack food boxes for distribution, and take food boxes out to vehicles.

Help us provide our refugee families culturally familiar, nourishing food!

Do you have a vehicle and time to volunteer? Do you like meeting new people from all over the world?

We are looking for volunteer drivers to help us transport our refugee clients to and from medical appointments, the Social Security Office, English classes, Summer Camps, etc. Our clients are dependent upon public and community transportation when they arrive in Knoxville, so volunteers helping them navigate the community makes a definite impact in welcoming them to Knoxville.

Transportation needs generally happen on an as-needed basis usually during Bridge office hours, 8:30-5:30 M-F.  However, night and weekend opportunities arise!

Bridge Refugee Services is searching for committed volunteers who love working with people and are interested in helping another person start or continue learning English.

As a refugee resettlement agency, Bridge helps refugees start a new life in the United States. English/ESL volunteers are a wonderful one-on-one resource for people as they begin this journey.

Being able to speak English is crucial for refugees as they start their first job and learn about their new community.

Even if you have never taught English, this is a great opportunity to work with an individual or family as they improve their English skills.  Bridge will provide a complete online ELL curriculum with placement testing, lesson plans, easy-to-navigate online lessons, teaching tools, activities and games, worksheets, and independent student work.  We will also provide or facilitate any training or support you might need, to see our students succeed in this program.

Brighten someone's day! Volunteers in our Reassurance Program make scheduled calls to older adults in East TN who may be homebound, isolated, or lack support.   

CONTACT Care Line's Reassurance Program offers regularly scheduled phone calls to adults aged 65+who could use additional social and emotional support. This service is especially beneficial for older adults experiencing isolation, providing consistent, compassionate connection to brighten their day and check in on their well-being.  

Responsibilities and Duties:  

Make regularly scheduled phone calls to Reassurance program clients from the comfort of your home. Reach out to an average of 3-4 clients per shift.  

Document: Log call details in our online system.  

Communicate: During the shift, maintain close communication with staff and other volunteers through the Slack platform to coordinate calls and receive support as needed.  

Requirements and Skills:  

Some availability Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am – 6pm. Full-day availability is not necessary; scheduling is flexible within this window.  

A private workspace free from distractions: Volunteers must have a quiet, private setting from which to make calls.   

A computer and private internet connection: Calls are made from a recorded line, so the ability to download and use the Zoom application onto a personal computer is necessary. Assistance setting up your computer is available if needed.  

Empathy & Active Listening: A warm, compassionate listening ear, free from judgment and advice.  

Reliability: Dependability for scheduled shifts and completing tasks as assigned.  

Good Communication Skills: Ability to connect with clients and teammates authentically, express needs and information clearly and promptly, and accept feedback/instructions readily.  

Confidentiality: Protection of the personal information of CONTACT Care Line’s clients.

SUMMARY:

We are looking for volunteers to ride along with our Food Rescue Staff Members.

Our Food Rescue Drivers are responsible for safely and efficiently picking up donated products from various donors such as, grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, etc. Donated products are delivered to partner agencies (food pantries, shelters, senior and disabled housing facilities, etc.,) or brought back to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution. Food Rescue Drivers and volunteers are required to positively act as an ambassador for Second Harvest Food Bank to maintain and build donor relationships, agency partnerships, and community support.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Represent Second Harvest Food Bank in a professional, positive, and efficient manner to increase our distribution abilities, enhance donor relationships and improve partner agency satisfaction.

Work with Staff to safely and efficiently pick up a wide variety of donated products from grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, etc. on regular reoccurring routes. Food Rescue Drivers will from time to time be asked to pick up “call in” donations in addition to the regular route.

Work with Staff to adjust route accordingly to maximize time, meet the needs of our donors and our partner agencies. Specified times will apply.

Work with Staff to deliver donated goods to partner agencies (churches, shelters, senior housing facilities, schools, etc.) for distribution to the community or bring back to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution.

Work with Staff to complete accurate reports for donations received and donations delivered daily and provide this documentation to designated staff.

Work with Staff to Provide excellent customer service and communication to donors and partner agencies (grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, schools, churches, senior centers, etc.) including a timely response to phone calls and emails.

Work with Staff to maintain a clean truck (cab of truck and food storage box) and any other equipment (pallet jacks, hand trucks/dollies, etc.)

 Have fun and enjoy getting to know our drivers, our donors, our agencies, and our food rescue program.

CONTACT Care Line is seeking compassionate and dedicated volunteers to join our newly established Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team.

About the LOSS Team: The LOSS Team provides support to individuals and families who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. As a LOSS Team member, you will play a critical role in offering comfort, resources, and a listening ear to survivors, helping them navigate the difficult early moments of their grief journey.

Possible Tasks:

Training Provided: All volunteers will receive training on suicide prevention, crisis response, and providing support to survivors. No prior experience in crisis intervention is required – just a willingness to learn and serve others in their time of need.

With 7.5 acres of greenspace atop Mabry's Hill and a single staff member, volunteers provide vital in maintaining and beautifying our historic site. Bridge Refugee Services is expecting to welcome a record number of refugees to Knoxville this year, and we cannot do this without community support.

We would love to have volunteers help us shop for culturally appropriate groceries.  We will give you grocery gift cards (you don't have to use your own money!) and a culturally appropriate grocery list for the family you are shopping for; you help us by going to a local Walmart or other grocery store and shopping for the items on the list and return the groceries to our office. This volunteer opportunity is very flexible with busy schedules!

Help us give a refugee family a head start in their new city by providing nourishing food.

Every Wednesday, Emerald Youth's JustLead Ministry offers a discipleship opportunity for youth and the community. Each afterschool location has an evening filled with fun games, a Bible lesson, corporate worship, and other faith activities. We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to lead students in small groups to discuss the Bible message of the week. We serve elementary, middle, and high school age students.  Commitment:  Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 pm at one of our JustLead locations

Ujima is building relationships and introducing the game of soccer to 5th graders at Sarah Moore Greene each Friday. Recess runs from 12:15 - 12:35 unless it is raining. Training focuses on our core values of teamwork, respect, discipline and leadership, and a structured play time that gets everyone involved. Students go directly from recess to their lunch time where Ujima coaches are welcome to hang out and talk until 1:05 pm.  Volunteers must submit to a personal interview and a background check.

The Salvation Army is seeking individuals to help serve dinner for residents in our shelters. 

Volunteers serve food from a cafeteria-style serving line and assist with other kitchen duties, as needed.  Kitchen duties can include sweeping, cleaning and disinfecting tables and/or rinsing dishes.  

Once you sign up for a shift, your volunteer shift is confirmed.

If you are volunteering as part of a group, each person in the group must sign up to volunteer separately.

Arrival time, parking, entry, and attire:

Please arrive at our Knoxville Area Command at 409 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN no later than 4:15 pm. You may park anywhere. Enter the main building facing Broadway building through our main entrance (second entrance on the front side of the building between the flag pole and playground). Let the receptionist know you are there to volunteer. You will be directed where to go once you check in at the front desk. 

If you are volunteering on a date when the main office is closed, please walk around the back of the main building to the kitchen entrance which is the last door on the raised patio.

Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Attire should also be appropriate and not include profanity, low-cut tops, or excessively short dresses or shorts.

**Mobile Meals delivers meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, but help is needed all holiday season**

Mobile Meals delivers to over 1,000 homebound seniors daily Monday – Friday to every zip code in Knox County. Volunteers deliver a hot lunchtime meal that, along with the daily safety check, helps to keep individuals safe and healthy longer in their own home, where they want to be. We need over 100 volunteers deliver meals each weekday. Volunteers are always needed to help with this much needed service.

Deliveries take place 10am - 1pm, Monday-Friday. Volunteers can schedule a route to be assigned on a regular basis, can volunteer seasonally (during holiday times, during any school breaks, etc.);or can give us a list of dates or just reach out when available. Kids are welcome to come along and Students will earn 4 hours per delivery and are welcome to bring someone along with them.

We need 2-3 volunteers to join our PJ Parkinson's Support Group in Clinton, TN. They will need to assist our support group participants with sign-in and mobility. Our support group meets twice a month at Clinch River Home Health at noon. the first and third Wednesday of each month.

The Friendship House Peer Support Center (PSC) is a client-run rehabilitation service for adults with mental illness. Three main goals of peer support centers are education, socialization, and support. The PSC serves as a safe place for mentally ill adults to come build relationships, develop socialization skills, become involved in the community, and expand their support system. Members learn about independent living, mental health recovery, physical wellness and job training skills, and have a variety of community resources readily available

Volunteers are needed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00pm-3:00pm.

The Regional Intervention Program (RIP) is a 12-14 week behavior modification program for children ages 2 - 6.  The program is designed to simultaneously decrease the child's unwanted behaviors while strengthening social skills and empowering parents to set developmentally appropriate limits and consequences for their child.  

RIP volunteers are needed on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 5pm-8pm.

Ujima is a soccer centric after-school program that operates from 3:30-5:30 Monday through Thursday at Vine Middle School. The time is split between on field training and holistic enrichment in the Ujima Clubhouse. Enrichment activities include positive psychology with the University of Tennessee, leadership development, Footy Lab with DataRook, and cognitive development with Learning Rx. 

Volunteers are needed each day to build relationships, assist in training, and supervise play time. (We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of once a week.) Volunteers must agree to a personal interview and a background check. 

The Joy of Music School holds Board Meetings from noon to 1pm on the third Wednesday of every other month throughout the calendar year. Our first meeting of 2026 will be on Wednesday, January 21st. We are looking for a volunteer receptionist to answer phones and let visitors in to the school during those six meetings. It is a light duty position.

I'm great at running my organization. But when it comes to fundraising, I'm not the best. We are looking for someone who is interested in takin the lead on this and help our organization raise money. Resilience Wellness Association is a 501(c)(3) that I started in 2022 to provide access to mental health services such as therapy and counseling. Our organization has grown thanks to receiving some grants, but we really lack funding from donations. We are looking for someone who would be interested in raising money for us through social media promotions and connecting with businesses.

Little Chefs, Big Change is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Cooking Class Volunteers to join our mission-driven team. The Farragut Museum is seeking docents.  There are 2 person shifts, and the museum is open Tuesday - Saturday 11 am - 2 pm.  There is a training manual available, and a background check is required.  

Great Starts is a structured living program that offers integrated substance and mental health treatment services to recovering pregnant and parenting women.  The program utilizes evidence-based practices for co-occurring treatment.  The program's goal is to strengthen the mother-child bond through comprehensive services for mothers and specialized care for their children.  Volunteers will lead classes that teach women specialty & life skills. Examples include nutrition, cooking, crochet, GED tutoring, etc. Classes taught will be based on volunteers expertise.

This opportunity is weekday mornings, with frequency subject to volunteer schedule.

Volunteers may do the following:

Volunteers must be over 18 years of age. In addition to completing background checks this opportunity also requires a TB test.

All curriculum is prepared and training is included. This is a great opportunity to help the Knoxville community

Role: Teach adult learners basic computer skills using a prepared curriculum.

Schedule: 5-week cohort (two 1.5 hr sessions weekly + train-the-trainer).

Duties: Lead classroom instruction, engage students, collaborate with assistant instructors, maintain professional communication, track attendance, administer pre-class and post-class surveys.

Requirements: Proficiency in Google Apps and/or Microsoft 365, social media, Zoom, Teams; and communication; ability to foster a positive learning environment.

Preferred Skills: Teaching experience, Microsoft Office, Teams, online safety, Knox County Schools platforms, Canvas, Aspen, Parentsquare, telehealth experience, bilingual a plus.

Role: Support the Lead Instructor instruction by helping students during class.

Schedule: 27 hrs per 5-week cohort (two 1.5 hr sessions weekly + setup/cleanup + train-the-trainer).

Duties: Set up/lock up Chromebooks, assist participants with questions, return room to previous order.

Requirements: Proficiency in Google Apps and/or Microsoft 365, strong communication skills, professional demeanor, ability to foster a positive learning environment.

Preferred Skills: Some teaching experience, Microsoft Office, Teams, online safety, Knox County Schools platforms, Canvas, Aspen, Parentsquare, telehealth experience, bilingual a plus.

We are looking for volunteers who can consistently volunteer for our Afterschool programs that mentor and support English Language Learners primarily in grades K-5! Our Afterschool Programs are located at 4 different Elementary Schools in Knox County serving each site once a week for 2.5 hours. We also have an additional Enrichment Program that runs in our offices twice a week in the evening. 

Needing volunteers to search for grants both local and national that I can apply for that are geared for music, the arts, international focus, singing, choral, musical theatre, etc.

I would like the volunteer hours to be spent looking for grants that we could apply to that fit our youth choir. I would also like the volunteer to type up a document of the grant, contact info, deadlines, and any information that would be helpful about that grant.

We need a go-getter who wants to help us succeed in finding funding.

Needing volunteers to search for area music festivals and build an informational page for me to have the contact, dates, deadlines, etc. that we can apply to be a part of. I need someone to organize a spreadsheet for me by month to help me know when deadlines are due for the various festival applications.
