Volunteer: Volunteer Caller for Older Adult Social Connection ProgramBrighten someone's day! Volunteers in our Reassurance Program make scheduled calls to older adults in East TN who may be homebound, isolated, or lack support. CONTACT Care Line's Reassurance Program offers regularly scheduled phone calls to adults aged 65+who could use additional social and emotional support. This service is especially beneficial for older adults experiencing isolation, providing consistent, compassionate connection to brighten their day and check in on their well-being. Responsibilities and Duties: Make regularly scheduled phone calls to Reassurance program clients from the comfort of your home. Reach out to an average of 3-4 clients per shift. Document: Log call details in our online system. Communicate: During the shift, maintain close communication with staff and other volunteers through the Slack platform to coordinate calls and receive support as needed.
Requirements and Skills: Some availability Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am – 6pm. Full-day availability is not necessary; scheduling is flexible within this window. A private workspace free from distractions: Volunteers must have a quiet, private setting from which to make calls. A computer and private internet connection: Calls are made from a recorded line, so the ability to download and use the Zoom application onto a personal computer is necessary. Assistance setting up your computer is available if needed. Empathy & Active Listening: A warm, compassionate listening ear, free from judgment and advice. Reliability: Dependability for scheduled shifts and completing tasks as assigned. Good Communication Skills: Ability to connect with clients and teammates authentically, express needs and information clearly and promptly, and accept feedback/instructions readily. Possible Tasks: Respond as part of a team to recent suicide losses, in collaboration with local organizations, authorities, and/or first responders.Provide compassionate support to survivors, offering emotional care and connection.Share information about available resources for grief support and mental health services.Write and package cards to loss survivors around holidays, birthdays, etc.Asist with resource identification and vetting. Package resource care packages that are shipped to the newly bereaved.Serve as a bridge to ongoing support services for survivors in the community.Training Provided: All volunteers will receive training on suicide prevention, crisis response, and providing support to survivors.
