Join us as we move forward in our quest to build a new shelter for Monroe County Animals.

The current shelter for dogs and cats is in terrible disrepair.  We need to raise a few million dollars to build a new one.

We have many positions available for people to help.  Can you make phone calls?  Marketing experience and branding? Putting packets together?  Events?  Fundraising experience?  Many more as we move through this process.

Thanks, and we hope you will join us!

Volunteer: Monroe County Animal Shelter Help

Volunteer - MCFA (monroecountyfriendsofanimals.org)

At the Animal Shelter

The animal shelter in Madisonville has a minimum staff.  The animals need more care and attention than the staff can provide.  Some of the  tasks at the shelter are dog walking, cat enrichment, socializing, cleaning, doing laundry, greeters and front desk work.  Volunteering just a few hours a week is a huge help.

Transporting Animals

In an effort to find homes for as many animals as possible, dogs and cats are  transported to rescue destinations, most often out of state, where they are quickly adopted.  Drivers, who can also load and unload the animals, are needed for these transports.

Foster an Animal

Foster homes provide temporary homes for animals in need.

Adoption Events

Three or four times a year there is an adoption event  (e.g. at a Petsmart store).  Volunteers are needed to tend to the animals throughout the day.  Usually this is  for 3 hours on a Saturday.

Volunteer: Monroe County Animal Shelter is overcrowded

Monroe County Animal Shelter is currently experiencing a large influx of strays resulting

in an overcrowding situation that is causing them to consider what it means to make space, including euthanasia.

MCFA has worked diligently for years to help save lives by getting animals new homes as quickly

as possible. This has been accomplished by lowering intake numbers through our free voucher SNAP

program, foster care, and education for the public.

Please spread the word to your friends about adoptions and volunteering to become a foster parent.

Fostering is ideal for animal lovers who are:

Seniors and others not wanting the lifelong commitment that comes with pet adoption Families—fostering is a great way to teach kids about responsible pet ownership. Anyone who is looking for a way to truly make a difference in an animal’s life
