Needs From: Volunteer East Tennessee

The Vine Volunteer Collective is looking for a few extra hands to help us refresh and reorganize two important spaces at Vine Middle — our Community Care Closet and Staff Supply Room!

These spaces support our students, families, and teachers every day, but they’ve gotten a little cluttered and need some care. We’ll spend the afternoon sorting donations, restocking supplies, and organizing both rooms to make them more welcoming and easy to use.

TIME: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM (We may finish early!)

WHAT TO EXPECT:

We’ll split into two teams:

Community Care Closet Crew: Sort and restock clothing, hygiene, and household items; tidy shelves; organize bins.

Staff Supply Room Crew: Organize and label supplies, restock materials, and help give the space a fresh start.

Some light lifting may be involved, but there will be plenty of ways to help for all ability levels.

You don’t have to stay the whole time — even an hour or two makes a difference! Volunteers are welcome to come early or arrive later in the window; just let Kyle know what hours you’re available when you sign up.

WHEN ARRIVING AT THE SCHOOL:

Please park on Martin Luther King Jr Avenue and then come to the front office doors underneath the awning. You will need to have your drivers license or some other form of verification to sign in at the front. All volunteers must complete an orientation with the Site Coordinator, Kyle Pickell, so plan to arrive 15 mins early to your volunteering event.

The Vine Volunteer Collective is a collaborative initiative at Vine Middle Magnet School, made up of businesses, nonprofits, churches, neighborhood organizations, and individual volunteers working together to support our educators, staff, and students. This collective provides practical, hands-on assistance to help meet the day-to-day needs of our school and create a supportive, uplifting environment for everyone. As a volunteer, you’ll have opportunities to:

Assist with small group activities or learning stations Support students one-on-one with assignments or reading Help English Language Learners with language practice Organize classroom supplies, materials, or decorations Prepare lesson materials (copies, laminating, etc.) Assist with school events, plays, or musicals Translate or help with parent communications Share your skills or expertise as a guest speaker Or, feel free to share other ideas you have!

Whether you’re representing an organization or volunteering as an individual, your time and efforts will directly impact the educators and students of Vine Middle Magnet School.

The Vine Volunteer Collective is looking for Spanish and Swahili-speaking volunteers to support Family Engagement events at Vine Middle School throughout the school year. We are building a network of volunteers who can be called upon to assist with language support as needed—there’s no expectation to be at every event, just those you have capacity for! Your help will play a vital role in strengthening connections and improving communication with our multilingual families during after-school events. DESCRIPTION:

The Vine Volunteer Collective needs your help to make Shine at Vine – Around the World Showcase an amazing night! Whether you can help with setup, supervise meals, guide guests, or pitch in with cleanup, your time will help make the evening fun, smooth, and welcoming for everyone. Volunteers are also invited to stay for our Kwanza Celebration from 7:00 – 8:00 PM, featuring student showcases and performances.

WHEN: Tuesday, December 9th, 2025
Time: Set-Up: 3:00 PM | Event: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Tear Down immediately after event

WHERE: Vine Middle Magnet School, 1807 Martin Luther King Jr Ave, Knoxville, TN 37915

WHAT:
Join us for Shine at Vine – Around the World Showcase — a night celebrating student talent, cultural exhibits, music, dance, and community connection. Families, staff, and community partners will come together to honor diversity, creativity, and learning. Volunteers are essential to making the evening run smoothly and ensuring every guest feels valued and welcomed.

VOLUNTEER ROLES NEEDED: Please let Kyle Pickell know what shifts you would like to support! You DO NOT have to stay for the entire event. 

Set-Up Crew (3:00 – 5:00 PM): Help arrange tables and chairs, set up exhibits, and assist partners in preparing their spaces. (4–5 volunteers)

Student Meal Support (4:00 – 5:00 PM): Supervise the cafeteria during the student dinner, help with trash, and support staff as needed. (3 volunteers)

Event Support (5:00 – 8:00 PM): Guide guests, answer questions, and help supervise the gym area or other event spaces. (2 volunteers)

Tear Down & Clean-Up (8:00 – 8:45 PM): Help take down tables, clean classrooms, cafeteria, and gym spaces. Must be able to lift and move tables. (4 volunteers)

This is a wonderful chance to engage with and support the Vine Middle Magnet community while celebrating culture, creativity, and student achievement.
