Volunteer: Warehouse Product Recovery: December 25

Our volunteers work out of our Maryville warehouse in the Product Recovery area or our Repack Clean Room where we process donated and bulk food for distribution, to help feed our East Tennessee neighbors.

Volunteers also help in non-food project support roles such as cleaning, letter stuffing, and miscellaneous admin duties.

No experience necessary! Training will be provided on-site at the beginning of the shift.

*Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age, and anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
** Please note, for groups that have minors ages 10-15 among the participants, we require a 1:5 chaperone to minor ratio. Please ensure that your group size matches this ratio with adult chaperones (18+) and minors.

Please park in the rear parking lot through the metal gate as parking in the front is limited. Volunteers enter through the double glass doors by the rear lot into our volunteer lobby.

Our Location:

Second Harvest Food Bank of East TN

136 Harvest Lane

Maryville, TN 37801

www.secondharvestetn.org

Please know you will be working in a warehouse environment and the following rules concerning dress must be followed:

While casual attire is welcome; jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc., attire must be appropriate for a family environment. Wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring layers when temperatures outside are colder, as the warehouse is not heated. Open toed shoes are prohibited. You may be required to wear a mask, gloves, and hairnet depending on your work project. ALL hair must fit into hairnet - bring a hair band if you have long hair. Jewelry should be limited to rings only. Earrings and watches may need to be removed. Please do not bring personal items like bags and backpacks into the warehouse. Phones should never be set down on counters or pallets. Please keep phones in pockets while working in the warehouse.

Additionally, please consider maximizing your impact while volunteering: bring can goods with you to donate, engage with us on social media, or make a gift online.

Volunteer: Food Donation Items

Please follow this list of items needed for Bridge Refugee Services:

You do not need to respond to this need to participate — simply use the link above to learn what items are needed and connect with Bridge to schedule a drop off time!

Please note that Bridge is housed in Suite A and is the bottom floor of the building, and the front door of our office faces Whittle Springs Rd.  When you arrive, you can ring the buzzer at the door and let the staff member who answers know you are dropping off a food donation.  If you purchase food, it always helps us for donation recording purposes if you keep and provide a receipt, but this is not required.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Peter Green at pgreen@bridgerefugees.org or Sidney Schumm at volunteerknox@bridgerefugees.org.

Volunteer: Warehouse Product Recovery: November 25

Volunteer: Help Us Pick Up Community Food Donations!

Our mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services offers support to over 400 refugee clients in the greater Knox Co. area, and we cannot do this without community support.

Through Second Harvest's Food Rescue Program, we have been able to create partnerships with local ethnic grocery stores and restaurants around Knoxville to combat food insecurity in the refugee community.  We would love to have volunteers help us pick up food donations from these stores and restaurants each week.  We will give you a location or locations to pick up from and you will represent Bridge as you drive to these locations to interact with store employees and pick up these donations.  Then bring these donations back to our office to help us weigh and record the donation.  Vehicles that can haul large donations are preferred, but may not be required.  This volunteer opportunity is a weekly opportunity with some flexibility.

Help us provide our refugee families culturally familiar, nourishing food!

Volunteer Requirements:

Complete Bridge Volunteer Paperwork Attend Bridge Volunteer Orientation (about 1hr via Zoom) Background Check through Sterling Volunteers ($17.50 per person paid to Sterling Volunteers)

Foreign language skills or experience working with refugee populations not required.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Peter Green, our Volunteer & Co-Sponsorship Manager, via email at pgreen@bridgerefugees.org.
