Covenant Health Office of Philanthropy

Our Mission

We believe everyone in our community deserves excellent healthcare. And, we believe you agree. Covenant Health is a not-for-profit, community owned healthcare system committed to improving the quality of life in East Tennessee through better health. In partnership with our generous donors, Covenant’s 10,000+ employees, physicians and volunteers are providing the very best care for our patients and their families.

The Office of Philanthropy coordinates all philanthropic initiatives at Covenant through six foundations – Claiborne County Healthcare Foundation, Fort Sanders Foundation, Methodist Medical Center Foundation, Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation, Thompson Cancer Survival Center Foundation, and Morristown-Hamblen Hospital Foundation. The fund raising efforts of these foundations support the system’s acute care hospitals, as well as its outpatient facilities, specialized cancer and rehabilitation centers, behavioral health organization, and hospice/home health services. As the health system has grown, so have our philanthropic efforts. The first organized fund raising efforts began in the mid-1970s with a campaign to establish the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center. In the years since, thousands of generous individuals and businesses have contributed millions of charitable dollars to support new programs, education, technologies, and capital improvements at many of Covenant’s member organizations. You have an opportunity to make an impact on the future of healthcare in East Tennessee…for your family, for your neighbors, and for your local community.

Race Against Cancer - Volunteers Needed

Join us on Sunday, November 7, 2021 | World's Fair Park, Knoxville, TN

raceagainstcancer.org

The Race Against Cancer is a walk and run* that raises funds for Thompson Cancer Survival Center's Cancer Outreach Services program. Your participation and support make a difference in the lives of the patients and families of Thompson Cancer Survival Center. Since its inception 25 years ago, the race has raised more than $7.4 million for cancer education and care in East Tennessee. Thanks to Race Against Cancer supporters and participants, thousands of medically underserved individuals have received life-saving screenings and information each year. Most importantly proceeds raised by the race go to fight cancer within our local community.

YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

“Thompson Cancer Survival Center was created to provide the best in cancer care for the people of Southern Appalachia. Our mission is to increase the number of cancer survivors in the communities we serve. Every day our physicians and staff strive to do just that by offering the latest in clinical research and the most advanced cancer treatments available.” Scott Warwick, President and Chief Administrative Officer, Thompson Cancer Survival Center

Artists working with a variety of media are invited to apply to participate in Artsclamation! each year. Members of the Artsclamation! jury then review applications and select artists to invite to the show. Approximately 50 artists, including painters, photographers, jewelers, fiber artists, woodworkers and sculptors, participate in each year’s show. A percentage of each artist’s sales is donated to Peninsula. One artist is selected each year as Featured Artist for the show. A Featured Piece, created by that artist, is donated to Peninsula, used in promotional materials for the event, and sold at the Preview Party.

SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH

One in four people in East Tennessee suffer from a mental health illness. However, there is a significant gap in funding for programs to serve these individuals compared to other diseases and diagnoses. Artsclamation! is Peninsula’s only fundraiser and helps to fill some of the gaps left in those funding sources. Proceeds in past years have funded garden courtyards for adult patients, vans for transporting clients in outpatient programs, play areas for hospitalized children, therapeutic games and activity supplies.

Elizabeth Clary, BSN, RN, MHA, vice president of behavioral health for Peninsula, noted how the community’s support of the art sale will help Peninsula meet a public health need.

“Peninsula relies heavily on proceeds from Artsclamation!,” she says. “We are good stewards of every dollar that is spent to provide care and treatment for those that need us. Funds from this event assist Peninsula with therapeutic spaces and activities for our patients that would otherwise not be an option.”
