Friends of the Blount County Animal Center

The mission of the Friends of the Blount County Animal Center is to provide funding to ensure that every healthy and adoptable animal finds a home, each adoptable animal with a treatable condition, receives treatment to restore its health and every behaviorally sound animal with an untreatable medical condition, receives hospice care.

Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation was formed in 2007 to raise funds for Blount County's first modern animal shelter in the history of the county. Since opening it's doors, the center has provided care for almost 35,000 animals. The Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation, now operating as Friends of the Blount County Animal Center, in partnership with the Blount County government, created an incredible $1.6 Million, state-of-the-art, animal-care facility, and today we are in the midst of preparing for an expansion to that facility to serve the community even better. To date, BCAC remains the only open-access municipal shelter in the county, meaning that our shelter is the only facility guaranteed and committed to serve the county’s citizens as well as all of the animals who arrive to our doors in need. The shelter’s small staff, with the help of volunteers, provides exceptional care to the stray, surrendered, and abandoned animals, coming from every corner of the 362,880 acres of Blount County.

The Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation, now operating as Friends of the Blount County Animal Center, provides funding to the Blount County Animal Center to ensure exceptional medical care and to maximize adoptions.

Volunteers are needed to walk and socialize dogs, help clean and care for cats, work in vetting, foster animals, and/or help with events. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old 10-13 year olds are accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times 13-16 years have parent or guardian on premises
