Come read books aloud to elementary school students in a Knox County School! Commit to reading weekly or biweekly to an elementary class through a school semester. Your involvement is vital for the students and our organization as we instill the joy of reading into the kids of Knox County who need it the most!
Where: Christenberry Elementary or Norwood Elementary
Duties:
- Show up 10-15 minutes before reading to park and check in at the front desk
- Choose books from the provided cabinet to read aloud
- Provide an engaging reading time 20-30 minutes a week to your class
- Keep your teacher and/or manager informed of unavailability
Qualifications:
- Able to be caring, enthusiastic, and positive with elementary-aged children
- Able to commit weekly/biweekly to reading in a classroom setting
- Able to work with the teacher’s needs and leading
- Have a heart for helping kids!
Expectations:
- Initial meeting with site manager (15-30 min)
- For The Love of Reading orientation (45-1hr)
- Coordinate with site manager your time availability
- Meet with School Resource Coordinator at the school in-person (15-30 minutes)
- Shadow a reader and site orientation at school (45 minutes)
- Read weekly/biweekly at your scheduled time
- Dress according to Knox County School’s dress code
