Little Chefs, Big Change is a nonprofit organization that partners with after-school programs across Knoxville to get kids excited about cooking and eating healthy food.
This cooking program will be held at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens (in their "Carriage House") and will engage all of the students of the Shora Foundation after-school program (~16 students). We will make a large meal with the kids and then their parents and caregivers will have the option to sit and eat or take food home at pick-up time.
As a cooking class volunteer, you will work directly with the our lead cooking instructor, other volunteers, and students, helping us bring the joy of healthy cooking to elementary and middle school students.
During a typical class, you might:
-
Assist the lead instructor, including helping with demonstrations, monitoring cooking stations, and addressing any issues that arise.
-
Help set up the cooking stations and assist in cleaning and organizing the cooking area after each class.
-
Encourage students to participate actively in the cooking process, helping them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
-
Adhere to safety guidelines and ensure that students handle kitchen equipment and ingredients safely.
-
Assist students in preparing ingredients, which may include washing, chopping, and measuring.
-
Encourage students to explore new plant-based ingredients and recipes.
-
Foster a sense of teamwork and cooperation among the students.
-
Set a positive example for students in terms of attitude, enthusiasm, and respect for others.
-
Be prepared to adapt to changing situations and assist with various tasks as needed.
