Description

Be a Friendly Face and a Positive Presence

The Salvation Army's Community Care Hub brings service providers and community agencies together to  connect individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability with health services and other essential community resources.

Community Engagement Volunteers help create a welcoming environment where guests feel respected, supported, and connected. Through simple conversations, encouragement, and a consistent presence, volunteers help build trust while supporting the overall operation of the center.

What You'll Do

  • Welcome and interact with guests throughout the facility
  • Build positive relationships through conversation and encouragement
  • Help guests feel comfortable and connected to available services
  • Assist individuals in finding the providers or resources they are seeking
  • Provide a friendly and visible presence throughout the center
  • Help maintain an orderly, respectful, and welcoming environment
  • Observe and communicate concerns to staff or partner agencies when needed
  • Support the flow of guests and activities throughout the facility

What We're Looking For

  • A warm, approachable personality
  • Strong listening and communication skills
  • Genuine interest in people and their stories
  • Comfort interacting with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences
  • Patience, good judgment, and appropriate boundaries
  • Dependability and a heart for serving others

Who Might Enjoy This Role?

This opportunity may be especially rewarding for retired educators, healthcare professionals, social workers, clergy, military veterans, community volunteers, mentors, or anyone who enjoys building relationships and encouraging others.

Time Commitment

The pilot phase of the Community Care Hub will initially operate Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning in late July, with the possibility of an additional day each week. Volunteers may serve weekly, bi-weekly, or on a schedule that works for them.

Why This Matters

Many individuals who visit the Community Care Hub have experienced isolation, instability, or barriers that make it difficult to access the support they need. Sometimes a simple conversation, a listening ear, or a familiar face can make all the difference.

By serving in this role, you'll help create a place where people are treated with dignity, encouraged to take positive next steps, and connected to resources that can improve their health and well-being.
