Do you love dogs and working with kids? Are you 21 years old or older? Then H.A.L.T. might be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Our organization provides therapeutic intervention for at-risk youth by teaching them how to train dogs in basic obedience using positive reinforcement training methods. You do not need any dog training experience. Our class leaders will walk you through simple steps to follow each class. You will be part of a team that includes 1 dog rescued from a local shelter and 1 teen or preteen who is in a residential treatment facility. It is a fun way to have a multi-pronged, positive influence on our community.
We have 4 classes that meet twice a week for 4 weeks ending with a graduation ceremony for the kids and dogs before the dogs go to their forever homes.
