Housing & Benefits Resource Volunteer Needed
Housing & Benefits Resource Volunteers help guests navigate applications for housing and public benefits. Volunteers will receive training to assist with things like housing, benefits, or documentation applications both on paper and online.
Volunteers may help guests:
- Complete or update applications
- Create email accounts and access online portals
- Gather, organize, scan, and upload required documents
- Check application status and understand next steps
- Connect with staff or partner agencies when additional help is needed
We are looking for volunteers who will take real ownership of this work. That means learning the processes, taking initiative, following through, and becoming someone guests and staff can depend on.
Volunteers do not determine eligibility or provide legal advice. Instead, they stay engaged with our guests and help them move the process forward.
The Right Volunteer
The right volunteer for this role is someone who really wants to make a difference in individual people’s lives and can commit to ongoing service.
The ideal volunteer is…
- Dependable and able to serve on a regular schedule
- Willing to learn and become confident with application processes
- Proactive and comfortable taking responsibility for assigned tasks
- Patient, respectful, and nonjudgmental
- Comfortable using computers to complete online forms, create and check email accounts, etc.
- Organized and attentive to detail
- Committed to confidentiality and appropriate boundaries
People with experience in things like social services, housing agencies, education, healthcare, government programs, office administration, or any role where they have experience assisting the public with multi-step processes will be great fits for this volunteer role. But no specific experience is required – we’ll train and support our volunteers.
Because guests may need assistance over several visits, we need volunteers who will become consistent, familiar faces at the Community Care Hub and who will treat this role as an ongoing commitment—not simply an occasional volunteer shift.
Please note that this volunteer role requires a background check.
