The staff of Seven Islands State Birding Park is looking for volunteers to help with invasive plant species removal. This is an excellent opportunity for students needing volunteer hours as part of the requirements for the TN Promise program. Volunteers will work alongside park staff to cut and remove invasive plant species, including Privet, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, Winter Creeper, Virginia Creeper, and Multiflora Rose. The area that we will be focusing on is at the end of Kelly Lane Greenway near the Maple Leaf Barn. Volunteers can bring their own hand tools and gloves for cutting and removing vegetation if they have them. It is recommended that volunteers bring their own water for drinking since there is not a bathroom or water fountain in the area where we'll be working. Volunteers should plan on meeting Ranger Stephanie near the gate by the main parking lot by 9:00am. We will carpool/caravan together following Ranger Stephanie to the site for the volunteer work. If you arrive after 9:00am, please call Ranger Stephanie at 865-333-8270 to meet you.
If you have questions regarding this volunteer opportunity please contact Ranger Stephanie at stephanie.mueller@tn.gov or 865-333-8270. In case of inclement weather, the volunteer day will be held the next day, Sunday, June 26 or a later date to be determined.
