OBJECTIVE: To walk alongside a newly widowed parent, meeting them where they are in the grieving process in order to alleviate everyday stressors and help build an enduring community support system for the parent.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: A Family Friend’s role is to check in on the parent for ongoing needs, assist in finding and referring parent to local services, remain apprised of changes in the parent's situation and serve not only as a liaison between the parent and WPRP Board, but also as a liaison between the parent and the community and the WPRP organization. TIME COMMITMENT: Monthly: meet with parent (at least once per month) and mandatory team meeting; total 4-6 hours (approx) per month. Agreement for parent partnership is 12-months.
